Welcome, John.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. It also helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how a book you might mention should look:

Anthony (Pharmacovigilant) | 2 comments Hi Everyone. Tony here. I recently joined as I have developed a fondness for history of late, particularly the history of the American Revolution and of the Early US Republic. I have been collecting books covering this period for some time (hard cover only, first printings preferred, some signed). Next week I'm visiting the Free Library of Philadelphia as Joseph Ellis will be talking about his latest work - Revolutionary Summer, which covers the military and political events that took place from May to October of 1776. Looking forward to learning from and engaging with fellow members here.

My love of history was sparked by my grandfather telling stories to me of ancient Rome around the dinner table (he was a a latin and German professor). As a result I have a mild obsession with the Mediterranean and have traveled there pretty extensively. Lovely to see so many people interested in history!

Rebecca Booth | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca and I'm 25 from the northeast of England.

I have a BA in History with Sociology and a MA in Modern History. Althought I don't have as much time to devote to history as I used to in my student days, I still love to read books when I can. I have a few particular interests the Tudor years, Mining culture in the Northeast of England and early twentieth century Europe.

Whilst at Uni both my dissertations looked into the mining industry. The first focused on mining disasters in the UK between 1832 and the late 1960s. Whilst the second one looked at the relationship between the miners and police during the General Strike of 1926. The paper I enjoyed writing the most however was around the VW Beetle and consumerism in East and West Germany.

I look forward to getting to know people in this group and taking part in some interesting discussion :-)

Stuart Jennings | 1 comments Hi my name is Stuart Jennings and I am both a university chaplain and history lecturer at the University of Warwick in the UK. My MA in history explored the life and estate of a royalist colonel (Isham Parkyns) in the British Civil Wars. My PhD looked at the development of Protestant Nonconformity in 17th century Nottinghamshire; from the Pilgrim Fathers through to post 1660 dissent. An avid reader of early modern history, I find myself teaching undergraduates about the Victorians and WW1 at the present moment

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) Hello, my name's Greg and I've been reading these posts for the past month now but haven't made any comments until today.

I'm from the state of Montana, Helena to be exact. I graduated from the University of Montana with a BA in History in 2008 and quickly moved to China, where I've been ever since.

In that time I've learned quite a bit about Chinese history, which I studied a bit of at the university, but I still like American and European history the best.
