Rachel | 2 comments Hello! My name is Rachel and I am inches away from finishing my PhD in 20th Century American Military History. I fell in love with military history after reading The Killer Angels in high school

The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara by Michael Shaara (no photo of Mr. Shaara available)

I specialize in the history of the Vietnam War, military medicine, and the development of the PTSD diagnosis. Since I am mired in dissertation work I look forward to using this group to read interesting history outside of my field. I can't wait to get started!

message 852: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) A warm welcome Rachel and congratulations on your upcoming educational achievement. Great job with the citations but just (no photo) will suffice.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

message 861: by Jim (new)

Jim Lewis | 1 comments Hi. I'm Jim and I live in the Pacific Northwest. My areas of interest are in post-Cold War military history and history of the US intelligence services, especially counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism. Even more specifically, I have read dozens of books on the events immediately prior to and after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including military operations, intelligence operations, and public policy.

In addition, I am also interested in the history of financial markets, with a particular emphasis on the nasty bits: panics, scandals, and other financial disasters.

I generally read strictly non-fiction works, including memoirs and other first hand accounts, as well as journalistic and scholarly overviews.

I am looking forward to discussing my areas of interest with other informed readers as well as getting some exposure to topics I am less informed in.

Lorespar Sparling | 4 comments Always a reader. Ten months out of the year, I am a hard working History teacher. Summer time is my time to read and experiment I the kitchen. In terms of history, I love figuring out what makes people tick. Big themes like leaders and movements are cool, too. I like industrial inventions, and will be visiting Ford and Edison's Winter Estates in Southwest Florida soon.
I will enjoy getting and participating with you all this summer.

Chris Russell (russellsinla) | 1 comments Hello I am Chris and am now reading my second biography since joining Goodreads.

Woodrow Wilson: A BiographyRoosevelt's Centurions: FDR & the Commanders He Led to Victory in World War II

While my professional life has nothing to do with my college double major (history and political science), I have always loved US history, historical biographies and novels and have read numerous books over the years. I also like to read good mysteries and suspense novels.

Am enjoying the discussion notes that go with each book too.

The add book/author feature works on an iPad IF you access goodreads through the web browser. The app has limited functionality. Using Safari or Forefox will do the trick. Let us know if you still need a hand.

I think its a very well-written and entertaining account of a not so well known period in Australian History.
