My name is Bev and I'm from SW Pennsylvania.
I enjoy nonfiction and American history and bio autobi
are high on the list.
I'm "learning" goodreads format and am happy to have found this group

I live in the San Francisco bay area where I write technical documentation for software developers. I'm an avid reader of American history and am currently focusing on WWI primary & secondary sources.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
When you mention a book, this is how it should look:

Thank you Bryan,
I will familiarize myself with the rules and started with the add book and author feature by adding one of my favorite books. I will read the rest of the rules too and hope I can be a worthy member of this group.

I'm very interested in WW2, Europe and Japan, in part because my dad was one of the generation--a Naval officer in the Pacific--- and typically didn't speak much about it. I like to fill in the details. So of course, a book like Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand takes me there.
But I've also just read Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard, surrounding the assassination of James Garfield. Fascinating, from new details about Alexander Graham bell to a history of the practice of medicine in the United States.
I look forward to chatting

My father was in the navy in the Pacific in WW2 also. Like yours, he also didn't speak much about the war.

I love all history really, but my particular areas of interest include medical history (plagues etc.), WWI/WWII, the Tudor period, and the Industrial Revolution.
Edit: Oh, and religious history. Knew I was forgetting one :)

I live in Michigan.
I am 48 and I love History.
I have been reading books about it since I was 10. I am a Combat Vet from the Iraqi war. I served 23 years. I am retired from the MI Guard and I am a Firefighter/EMT.
My early interest was in the Aviators of WW2. The last few years I have branched out into all areas of Military History and other things as well. My favorite author is W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Clancy. I have all Griffin's books. New one coming out soon and am ready to read it. I hope to get into a lot of talk about History here.
Book below was very interesting to me because it showed how we sometimes only look at History from one side.

Welcome, Paul. Please note that there is an active WWII discussion group, among many others. (So many choices and so little time!)

My name is sheena and I am a history newbie after all these years after high-school i need to let my brain no more then it already knows for some odd reason I don't know why I fell in love with it with this idea in my head to why i want to study history more and thinking this group could help me study when needed.... I really don't know what made me think on history but i thought the writing for books and the history in the olden days would be a good fit to understand where i am today in the world I figure history is my news and not the news of today if this makes any scenes at all I just want you to know how grateful I am to be here with you all today. have a nice day.

My name's Lucy, I'm 28 and I'm from the UK. I've joined this group as I've developed a real interest in history of late. I used to hate history class as a teen probably because we weren't taught in a way that allowed me to see how it's shaped the present. However I was recently both inspired by the film Lincoln and through my shame at how ignorant I am of basic history. I am particularly interested in British history from the Saxons onward and American political history.
Look forward to chatting to some of you and reading some great books.
Lucy x

Hi,
My name is Sam Honeycutt. I am 60 years old and a very eclectic reader. I read everything from Cicero to Church history. Star Trek to Harry Potter. The Code of Canon Law to Bacon and Marx. Mystery to fantasy, military history and Churchill to Washington and Jefferson.

The history I am interested in is more modern, however I would like to learn more about earlier history.
