Katy (kathy_h) Welcome Chuk. Glad you could join us. I love you attitude on ready to learn about anything you don't know about the world. That is often how I feel.

I think we can help you here with a history fix. You might start with some of these threads:

On Africa: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

World War II is always popular: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

World History: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

And you might try the folders of specific countries that you might be interested in reading about.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

The Metaphysical Club by Louis Menand by Louis Menand Louis Menand

Lars | 1 comments I teach history in a upper secondary school in Herning, Denmark. The curriculum is very broad, from Ancient history to current affairs, so sometimes I feel like a noob / newbie, even after 11 years of teaching. :-) The good part is, that I still have so much to learn.

Some of my favorite topics:  Israeli/Pal. conflict, Chinese history, French and American revolutions in the late 18th.century, Danish history in general and European renaissance.

I have just visited Florence for the 3rd time, so I'm currently in to the Medici's formal and informal exercise of power.

I'm here to connect and learn.

Kind regards.

message 1430: by Dong (new)

I'm Hsuan from Taiwan, and my major is history(modern Chinese history) at university.

My favorite topic has always been anything about capitalism in the modern world vice versa. I also love reading history of Rome and Latin American. The history of art and music are also interesting for me.

I'm still trying my best to read the original version, Very glad to join the club and share some enthusiasm of history book with others!

message 1432: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Wood | 8 comments Hi everyone
My name is Jo and I'm an Avon lady from the Cotswolds in the UK.
I've grown up with a fascination for history, particularly Roman history and English medieval history and have a fairly extensive collection of books on both subjects, both fiction and non-fiction.
My guilty pleasure would definitely be a good historical whodunnit.
My pet hate is so-called 'chick-lit'.

Currently reading:
Improbable Women Five Who Explored the Middle East by William Woods Cotterman
Favourite fiction authors: Conn Iggulden
Valerio Massimo Manfredi
Stephen Lawhead
Edward Rutherfurd
to name but a few.
I'm also rather fond of sci/fi fantasy and detective novels.
Looking forward to participating in this group
