Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
This is how a book should look:

I like to read nonfiction history(mostly military). My favorite is Civil War and WWII.
Doing my family geneology has expanded my interest in history also.
Glad you joined us, John. This is the place for the avid history buff.
We have a large section on the Civil War here -

Welcome to the group, Sully. You will find that many of us share an interest in military history, particularly that related to WWII.

Steve. You will find many American History buffs here; and
John. Vicki gave you some good links to whet your appetite.
Please browse the threads and join in the book discussions/recommendations. We look forward to your participation.

My name is Ricki and I joined the group months ago, but between relocating for work, getting laid off, and trying to reestablish a my schedule I haven't been able to read much.
I joined the group because I have an interest in historical events have shaped our current societies. Much of this interest arises from my life long interest in communities and politics/policies. I hope to spend the rest of the year reading books that focus on major events, particularly conflicts, in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Welcome Sully, Alicja, Ricki, Belle, Anthony and Arghya. Be prepared to have your to-be-read list of books grow enormously as you read what others have to say about their experiences.

Alicja: I see you are already posting on some of the threads. Keep up the good work.
Anthony: We all are still learning about history and you will find even more here to pique your interest.
Arghya: I'm glad you decided that history was really interesting. I think we may have all gone through that period when we thought history was dry.
Sully: You will find lots of good books here to add to your TBR list, which will quickly get out of hand....I speak from experience!!!

Hello Kressel - we do not allow promotion of any kind here - thanks for your understanding:
Here is your post minus the personal associations:
Hi. My name is Kressel. I'm an Orthodox Jewish woman living about an hour north of New York City. Up until a few years ago, I read fiction almost exclusively------I began reading some of the books he recommended, and I've since moved in other directions. Your group reads look pretty long, though. I hope I'll be able to keep up!

Hello, my name is Malissa and I am a huge history buff. I enjoy all aspects and read anything pertaining to history. I look forward to participating and making friends in this group. Thank you.

My name is Ulric. My history reading is mainly focused on European history especially about Germany. I tend to also gravitate toward books about war and social conflict within nations, though I'm always open to any book that piques my interest.

My name is Connie:
I am a retired Court Interpreter. I have a Bachelor's in History from Hunter College in New York City. I am looking forward in participating in The History Book Club and await reading recommendations. I see that the last introduction was also from a member called Connie so to distinguish I will go as Connie L.
Sincerely,
Connie L.

Welcome to the group, Kressel. We really hope you can join in on one of the book discussions. The books do tend to be long, but they go at a reasonable pace, generally taking 10-12 weeks to finish, or sometimes longer.
