My name is Oscar. I was born in London but now live in Florence, working there as a translator, journalist and editor. I’ve recently helped edit two novels set in Florence during World War 2. I’m also interested in Bomber and Fighter Command. I look forward to participating in this group.

Welcome to the group, Oscar--we are glad you found us.

We have an extensive section on WW II here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

The Gathering Storm (The Second World War) by Winston Churchill by Winston Churchill Winston Churchill

Kyla Squires | 1 comments Ahoy!
I'm Kyla, I live in Montreal, Canada. I'm a voracious reader of history and a firm believer in the importance of studying history, but I have few history buff friends to discuss books with.

I'm partial to histories of war and religion, but really, I'm open to reading any well researched and well written books on any subject/country/person/era etc.

Hoping I'll find lots of good recommendations, and discussions in this group.

I only read historical non fiction for years but joined a Bookclub to get me back into fiction to get a bit of variety but miss reading history stuff. Not too fussed about historical fiction though our autobiographies as find them too self indulgence. Particular eras of interest for me are Tudor-stewart, early 1800s, world wars and revolutions. All European. ... explains why I did a undergraduate in modern European history.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) So glad you joined us Blair. Let me suggest that you browse our home page until you find a topic(s) that catches your attention and join right in the book recommendations/discussions.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Thomas Jefferson The Art of Power by Jon Meacham by Jon Meacham Jon Meacham

Noorilhuda Hi (or Assalam-u-Alaikum as they say here in Pakistan),

I buy non-fiction books more than literary fiction. Just to give you a few examples of the kind of stuff that intrigues me:

On Pakistan:
The Murder of History A Critique of History Textbooks Used in Pakistan by K.K. Aziz
Pakistan A Hard Country by Anatol Lieven

Religion:
The Alphabet Versus the Goddess The Conflict Between Word and Image by Leonard Shlain

Political / cultural problems:
From Babel to Dragomans Interpreting the Middle East by Bernard Lewis

The feminist ideologues:
The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir

Memoirs:
My Life by Bill Clinton
Hard Choices by Hillary Rodham Clinton

Mass Media influence and usage:
The Press Effect Politicians, Journalists, and the Stories That Shape the Political World by Kathleen Hall Jamieson
Covering Islam How the Media and the Experts Determine How We See the Rest of the World by Edward W. Said

Hence am here! All the best.

Bryan Craig Welcome, Noorilhuda. You have some very interesting book titles. I will have to add some of them on my to read pile. Thanks for sharing.

Good job on the citation, a great first effort. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how the books you've mentioned should look since all you need is an author:

Bryan hi, yeah got Kathy's message too. I was about to re-do the format when I saw your post with the proper corrections - but thank you will keep this in mind in future. Got it.
