Tori Hello, my name is Tori. I am 20 years old and I am from Dallas, Texas. I am an avid reader, history being one genre that I am interested in. I like all kinds of history but have mostly been exposed to the history of the west. I am excited to be a part of the discussions and to widen my knowledge of this wonderful world and it's history!

A warm welcome Tori and I hope you find a new comfortable landing spot for yourself and your reading. Glad to have you. I look forward to reading your posts.

Corey Golden | 1 comments Hi all,

My name is Corey and I love reading books on U.S. history in particular. I think it is very important to understand our past. Although our history is brief, I believe it is rich with major world-altering events and incredible stories. I joined this board mainly to join a community who feels as passionate about history as myself, and to get recommendations on books. I love the concept of reading a book and creating a discussion with people after!

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) So glad you joined us, Corey. History is a doorway to the past and those things that make our world what it is today. Let me suggest that you visit our US History thread at the link below.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hello.
I'm Chris (though people online just call me Pandsu or, if that's too difficult or awkward, Panda) and I'm a 26 year old guy from Germany.

I am not sure how well I fit in this group since I don't know too much about History, nor do I read much. But that is something I want to change and I figured it would be much more interesting and fun (as well as easier when it comes to choosing what to read) with a group like this.

My pretty difficult life situation due to my disability and the environment I grew up in caused me to never finish school and pretty much teach myself most of the things I know, including the English language, using some of my sister's school books, other books I just kind of found, a dictionary and, from the age of 16 onward, the internet.
But there still is so much more to learn and even though I like to read some articles, watch videos and documentaries on things and I love to discuss all matter of things, broadening my horizon every single day, I keep finding myself lacking in the most basic fields of knowledge.
Things that are said to be universally known sometimes are what I am most ignorant about. That has to change. And I am hoping this group will be one of the tools to help me achieve that change.

History is one of the topics I find myself most fascinated with lately. But I fail to partake in any real discussion since I never feel confident I know enough about any topic to really contribute. All I can do is philosophize about things using merely the outline of what everything's about. And that just never feels right.

I'm more of a Gamer, and if I don't play games or stare at random videos on the internet, I usually watch Movies.
But I hope to broaden my horizon now. And I hope this group will help me with that endeavor.

M.T. Bass (mtbass) | 1 comments Hi All --

Glad to be part of the group. I came within a hair's breadth of being a history major, but ended up in the English & Philosophy Departments.

My current, self-imposed "assignment" is reading a biography of every American President in chronological order. I just finished Hoover and am searching for a good bio of FDR. I guess my areas of interest are military, science/technology, American and Russian history.

I live near Cleveland, Ohio in the US. I'm a pilot and musician, so when I'm not reading I'm out making noise with either an airplane or an electric guitar.

Folks call me Mudcat.

Durangokid | 2 comments Hi,

My name is James and I am retired and wish I had started sooner!I like history, science fiction, fantasy and whatever else take my fancy. I tend to binge read a subject and move on, but usually come back again eventually.

Zombies were all the rage for a while but now I'm enjoying Georgette Heyer Regency romance novels. Not usually an author read by many men, but I find them less stressful than zombies.

My favorite history books are WWII military history. Anything by Max Hastings, Anthony Beevor, Ian Kershaw is always welcome. Caesar by Adrian Goldsworth is sitting on my tablet and he's getting impatient, so maybe I'll get to him soon.

That's enough from me, get back to reading people who can write and I'll get back to enjoying my current guilty pleasure.

Brad Carle | 1 comments Hello group,
My name is Brad Carle and I have worked in clinical labs, mostly in a hospital setting, for 25 years. I enjoy studying a range of subjects, from science, to literature, to religion, to economics. I especially appreciate the study of the history of a given subject. Please be paient as I continue to load media that I have consumed onto my page. I use recorded lectures and books to help me find the time. Anyone else do this? As for "History", I started with Will and Ariel Durant and see no possible end in sight. Interest in other subjects may drop off, but history, just an overview, may not be possible for me. For example, I have covered a good deal of 'Western Civilization', but the rest is much weaker. Thanks for reading.

History is one of my favorite topics. Last year I challenged myself to read mostly historical fiction in 2014 (mostly to give myself a break from university reading!) and that is how I discovered how wonderful goodreads communities are. I have a similar goal for 2015, but actual history books this time, no fiction.

I am excited to take this reading journey with all of you. Happy reading!
