I am Jessica. I am a pediatric nurse. I love to read mostly fantasy, but I have a love for learning and history.

I don't have many people locally that likes books. I am excited to be able to read a book and be able to talk about it with others. :)

Canavan Greetings to the group.

My particular historical interests are, I would suppose, fairly typical ones — American, early modern Europe, and classical. I’m also interested in the history of science and technology.

Looking forward to learning from the posts of others and (hopefully) contributing.

message 4854: by Mike (new)

Mike Rabasco | 3 comments My historical interest lies with world war 2. And also the Civil War.

James | 1 comments Hello everyone, lovely to meet you. My name is James. I'm a music student from Ireland. I like history, travel, sports and languages. I love to visit new places to learn about their history and culture and I'm particularly interested in political and cultural history. At the moment, South American history is a bit of a special interest area of mine as I will be travelling there in May or June. I look forward to interacting with the group and getting to know you all!

Best wishes,
James

Caroline Gabe (cmgabe) | 1 comments Hello. I am Caroline!

Currently I live in New Mexico (USA), but was born and raised in the Midwest. I am working on my PhD in Anthropology, with a focus in archaeology. I study the historic period here is the southwest. As a part of my research I read a lot of history, but it is typically rather dry and specific to my research. I joined this group to help inspire me to read more broadly. My history interests are diverse - American, Spanish colonial, English/Irish/Scottish, Roman...

message 4858: by Elin Sofie (new)

Elin Sofie (elinsofie) | 8 comments Hello everyone
I am Elin Sofie from Norway. I just love reading and my favorites are everything on history and historical fiction. I'm interested in political, religious and cultural history.
I started reading history and historical fiction novels when I was very young. I loved the Sagas of the Norse Kings from the Icelandic historian, poet and politician Snorre Sturlason. He got me interested in Scandinavian history.
In the 1980s I listened to the radio as the Norwegian author Richard Herrmann was reading from his books about the history of London and the history of three great English queens. After that I was hooked on Brittish history. I have read some European-, American-, Middle East- and Chinese history.
I don’t have anyone local to share my love for books and history so I am thrilled that I stumbled upon this group. Looking forward to learn from the group and hopefully contribute back.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) A warm welcome, Jessica. You have found the place to talk about books!! And you might want to get started by browsing our home page at the link below and find those areas that are of interest to you.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Bryan Craig Hi Kerrie. Thanks for taking the time and posting an introduction. We have a lot to offer for you.

I'm happy to have stumbled on this book club! There's nothing in the world like having my nose buried in a good history book unless it's having my nose buried in a good history book with friends. Thanks much!

Matthew Barlow (mbarlow092) | 64 comments Hi everyone, my name is Matthew. I am from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. I am a recent graduate of Bishop's University with a BA Honours degree in history, I also have minors in geography and journalism. I have always been passionate about history, particularly 20th century military history. I wrote my honours thesis on how the US and USSR used the opening ceremonies of the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Summer Games as propaganda tools. My favorite topic is WWII. I have just finished reading D-Day: The Battle for Normandy by Antony Beevor, and was blown away by his detail and his knowledge. I have also just started to read Hiroshima by John Hersey and am finding it very interesting. I look forward to discussing history with all you fine people.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) So glad you found us, Matthew. It is always nice to have a history major as a member. You did a great job with the book citations but please put the author link after the author photo.(See my example below) It is also not necessary to put the link to the book in your text since you cited your books correctly at the end. Very nice job. Since you are a WWII buff, take a look at our thread on WWII at the following link.

W. Frazier Hi. This is your newest group member - Wendy. My reading tastes are eclectic. I can hop from Day of Infamy to Neil Patrick Harris, which sort of reflects my college interests from Math to Political Science to English to History to Sociology to my degree in TV/Media/Film Communication. Looking forward to a fun new year.

The William H. Jensen Library | 1 comments Hello, my name is Bill and I'm very pleased to be accepted as a member of The History Book Club. I live in Ontario, Canada where I was born.

From ages 5 to 17 I lived all over the U.S. becoming a lover of history at age 10. Living north of Kansas City at the time, I became a 'fan' of President Harry S Truman. Since then my main focus on history has been U.S. Presidents, Prime Ministers of Canada and the U.K. as well as the people who worked in their administrations and those who were influential in their lives.

I also really enjoy general U.S., Canadian, U.K. & Irish history with a side helping of the history of the NFL.

I look forward to being active member of our group.
