Tay | 261 comments I just finished Whiteout by Ken Follett. It was excellent! I'm now reading Death Notice by Todd Ritter.

Seeley James (seeleyjames) I just finished The Atlantis Gene: A Thriller and recommend it. If you're interested, see my review on SeeleyJames.com or on my Goodreads blog.

Peace, Seeley

Renee (rys00) | 252 comments Yesterday I got lucky with one of those serendipitous library finds: Blame by Michelle Huneven. It was in the large print section. I don't even remember what I was looking for in there. Apparently the memory does go before the eyes. I do like flying through those large print pages.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished Garnethill by Denise Mina. In this mystery Maureen O'Donnell wakes up one morning to find her married therapist boyfriend murdered in her living room. Having suffered abuse and been a mental patient herself, Maureen resents the accusatory attitude of the police; she decides to launch her own investigation. Good mystery with a little of everything: dysfunctional family, murder and mayhem, strong heroine. 4 stars.

Tad (tottman) | 139 comments I just finished Kind of Cruel by Sophie Hannah. Very interesting book. Absolutely no sympathetic characters, but a very engrossing mystery. It demands a close reading and is a little chilling. Extremely talented author.

Now I'm onto Full Ratchet: A Silas Cade Thriller by Mike Cooper.

Linda LaMona (lindalamona) | 124 comments I finished reading a couple of days ago, The Gingerbread House by Carin Gerhardsen . It was a good thriller. You might be led to believe when you start reading this that you know "who done it"; yet you know that this is probably not the case at all. If it was what would be the mystery? I suspected another person and was found right. There was also another attempt to bring in a side bar plot. All in all it was an okay read and did find I wanted to keep reading it to get to the final conclusion.

Linda LaMona (lindalamona) | 124 comments I am now reading Hollywood Moon (Hollywood, #3) by Joseph Wambaugh . This is the final (I think) book in the series of Hollywood mysteries. I loved Hollywood Station, and found Hollywood Crows somewhat just OK. This one has started off well and continues with some of the same characters from the other two books.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished The Informant by James Grippando, about an "informant" who tips off a reporter about the upcoming victims of a serial killer. Kind of a convoluted plot but it's a pretty good mystery. 3.5 stars.

I have not read one of his books in awhile and thought I would try this one. Your comments sound promising.

message 567: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just started Robert B. Parker's Lullaby Robert B. Parker's Lullaby (Spenser, #41) by Ace Atkins . Not ordinarily a fan of the concept of a new author trying to perpetuate a franchise when its originator dies, particularly when the character is as iconic as Spenser, and even more particularly when said iconic character is one of my three all-time favorites. That said, I'm 30 pages in and the voice is there. We may have a winner.

Yes that is the way I have felt about the last several books of hers. She lives in my hometown and I was a great fan of her first books. I guess she has a bad "ghost writer" now or what ??

I'm glad to hear you say that. I gave up on her a while ago, the books seemed to be navel gazing crap. She's in dire need of a real editor.

Were you just saying that, or does she have a ghost writer? A ghostwriter would explain a lot, but I have a feeling she's just out of touch with readers and her publishing company is afraid to tell 'the great Patricia Cornwell' how to write.

Peace, Seeley

Recenty finished Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose- a lovely series and this one was especially good - and Dark Waters by Robin Blake - politics and intrigue in 18th century England.

Currently reading The Cuckoo's Calling in print and Crashed on my tablet. Listening to Killed At The Whim Of A Hat. All three very good.

Jannene | 775 comments I finished Blindsighted yesterday. It was my first book by Karin Slaughter and I enjoyed it. I found the murderer a little too easily by still gave it 4 stars. I also finished The Sea of Monsters which is a teen book. I needed a lighter read after reading two books about incest and goth/vampires.

Elliott Garber (elliottgarber) I just tore through Alex Berenson's The Faithful Spy and really enjoyed it. I felt like it was a step above in terms of literary quality from many of the similar terrorism thrillers that I've read recently.

message 585: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 130 comments Several months ago I read a collection of crime shorts,
The 1st Short Story Collection and really enjoyed all the stories. Pretty brutal and hard hitting. I just finished Hard Bite which is a novella based on one of the shorts. It's the story of a man who is the victim of a hit and run accident, is confined to a wheelchair and comes up with a unique way of dispensing vigilante justice. If you like your crime books with a bit of an edge, give both these a whirl.

message 587: by Carmen (new)

Carmen | 2477 comments I just finished The Magician by W. Somerset Maughham. I got it free on iBooks. It was kind of hard to get into at first. I guess the prose of the early twentieth century just through me off for a bit. Once I got past that, it wasn't half bad.

Now I'm reading: The Lighthouse by P D James, The Egyptologist by Arthur Phillips and Watership Down by Richard Adams.

I agree. I liked her earlier novels but they just kept getting darker and darker. I kept reading hoping that they would improve. I see one of her books on the shelf now and although I want to buy it, I know I will only be disappointed. It is not even that she has lapsed into a formula as some writers do over time. It is almost like she is spiraling down into a really dark place.

Daniel Silva's books are great. If you like him you should try Vince Flynn.

message 593: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 11 comments Started Daggerspell by Katharine Kerr - love it so much I have ordered the rest of the series from the UK - so good !!!!!

message 594: by Aiesha (new)

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) I finished the Quincy/Rainie series by Lisa Gardner and although I did enjoy the series, I didn't care of the final book, Say Goodbye. I did NOT like the subject matter of the book and the series ended up focusing too much on Kimberly and not enough on Quincy & Rainie!

I have now started reading the Nikki Heat series by Richard Castle. It's a short series of only 4 books and it starts with Heat Wave. So far, so good. I'm loving Nikki Heat's character & personality!

Kate, a former investigator in Anchorage, Alaska moves home to north Alaska and gets involved in the search for two missing persons. The book was just so so; later books in this series are much better.
