How are Sylvia Day's books? I've not read any but want to!

A new one is coming out? I didn't know! What will it be called? I need to add that to my list!

Debut novels are always a bit off. I've met her at a local writer's workshop where she was a featured speaker. She's a wonderful, bubbly, nice young lady. Keep reading; I'll bet you like her later works.

Peace, Seeley

The Crossfire books are great - better than 50 Shades of Grey. Gideon is fantastic.

Jeffrey | 51 comments I'm currently reading The 9th Girl by Tami Hoag.

message 615: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I'm reading Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves by Matthew Reilly. In this book a terrorist group gets hold of a huge cache of guns and artillery - as well as a doomsday weapon - and prepares to wipe out the planet. A black ops group led by Captain Shane Schofield (Scarecrow)is assigned to save the day. If you like non-stop action with detailed descriptions of weapons and fighting this is the book for you. My favorite character is the cute little combat robot "Bertie" who comes in very handy in tough situations.

message 616: by Seeley (new)

Seeley James (seeleyjames) I just finished High Heat (Jack Reacher, #17.5) by Lee Child .

It's his 3rd short story, a format that is proving not to be his best category. While the writing is unique and fascinating the story falls flat.

Peace, Seeley

message 617: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay. In this book Thomas, who is mildly schizophrenic, spends all his time perusing Whirl360, an internet program that lets you see most streets in the world in detail (like Google maps). When he sees an apparent murder in a window he insists that his brother Ray help him investigate; murder and mayhem - with all kinds of interesting characters - ensue. Clever premise, good book. 4 stars for me.

message 618: by Deb (new)

Deb Stambaugh | 9 comments I've had two 4 star reads in a row - The Never List and Cover of Snow. The Never List was quite dark (made me think of Gillian Flynn) but well written (and left much of the disturbing subject matter off the page).

Both books started out quickly and held my interest throughout.

message 619: by Carmen (new)

Carmen | 2477 comments I'm one of these weird people who have to read multiple books at once. Don't know why, but there ya go!

Anyhoo....I'm reading "Watership Down", "The Egyptologist" and "Gideon's Sword".

message 620: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 421 comments Just finished Doors Open . It's an Ian Rankin novel, but not a Rebus novel. Competent and a fast read, but lacking in the texture Rankin is famous for. Three stars.

Ken Consaul | 209 comments Just a note in passing. Elmore Leonard, one of my favorites, died today three weeks after a stroke. He was 87 and working on his 46th novel. To me, he is the master of dialog. It looks like the grim reaper got Shorty.

Sandi | 451 comments I've been whiz sing through books (no remarks yet, sorry). Daniel Silva's "English Girl" and currently reading Brad Thor's newest. He's not an Obama fan and pulls no punches. This one is about the Federal Reserve, which I find I don't know/understand anything. Have some nonfiction research to do. Some others I need to go back and add to my reviews. I'll let you know my favorites.

message 637: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 674 comments I've just recently 'discovered' the Joe Gunther series by Archer Mayor and am happily working my way through the series. My kind of characters ... main character is mature and sensible, some of the supporting characters are quirky but not seriously damaged or addicted, the plots are varied. Overall, a very enjoyable series and most of the books in the series are, fortunately, available at my local library.

I just finished the first and last King and Maxwell books Split Second (good) and The Sixth Man (loved it!) by David Baldacci. I'll have to search out the others to read one of these days. I'm now reading 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King.

KyleB | 6 comments Just finished psycho thriller, First Night of Summer First Night of Summer by Landon Parham by Landon Parham
I think this book's violence is so misunderstood. This is the deepest of darknesses that this one family must prevail. This should be disturbing. To all parents I say, this is really out there, so don't stick your head in the sand. All I can say is be sure to read it till the LAST page, don't quit in the middle b/c the second half is surprisingly different. The hunter becomes the hunted. It is gritty and dark, emotionally captivating and eye-opening in its fictional story. This is a talented, young author who does some of the best character development I have ever read. Not for the faint of heart. Superb. I can't wait for more from him. I think his ebook is on sale for $0.99 right now...

That was my first Ace Atkins. Love that series. Although he appears to have moved on to Parker.

Dwayne Keller Just Finished Ethan Justice: Origins and Ethan Justice: Relentless. Two very good stories by a new author Simon Jenner. These are both action packed. They start off with a bang and don't let up. They are constant page turners and a thrill to read. I strongly suggest checking them out. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
