Jannene | 775 comments I just finished Swimsuit by James Patterson . It was a good book but the review said it was creepy like Kiss the Girls (Alex Cross, #2) by James Patterson and I don't find that very accurate. It didn't disturb me like "kiss the girls" did. It seemed more along the line of The Murderers' Club (Sophie Anderson, #2) by P.D. Martin .

That's good to know. It wasn't what I expected it to be. I can appreciate the books for what they were meant to be now that I know.

I hope you will go back to the earlier books and read them too. You'd get the entire flavor of Reacher. We ladies love Reacher!!!!! And not the Tom Cruise version.
Lee Child's books are so entertaining.

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) I just started The Killing House (Malcolm Fletcher, #1) by Chris Mooney and whoa........did it start out with a bang! Literally. This is Book One in a new series for Chris Mooney. This will be a hot, fast read!!!!!

message 2114: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Hi M, I too am a Jack Reacher fan but I can't bring myself to watch the movie and I really have not read Lee Child since the movie but would do a buddy read if you want although I've never done one:-):-)

message 2115: by Ter'e (new)

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) I haven't seen the movie either. Tom Cruise does not ring my bell and he sure as heck is NO REACHER! "The Rock" was more my choice.
:-)

I finished Bones of the Lost by Kathy Reichs last night and it was a bit of a disappointment. Today I'm starting Christine by Stephen King for a King group read.

message 2121: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Peled (peled) Read Sins of the Fathers by James Scott Bell . Didn't like it one bit. Couldn't finish it. I like the "Legal & Trial" genre. So I thought, here is another "Grisham" type of book. Problem was that it becomes kind of a religious book. It starts with a small trickle of mentioning God, and later on becomes a flood. I am not a religious person. I don't believe in God. Seems as if the author is trying to convince us otherwise. Why not stick to the trial story. Why bring God and church time and again. After 40% through the book, I gave up. There are so many other good books out there

message 2122: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Peled (peled) I read only 10% of Continental Divide (Separate Ways, #1) by Laura Harner .Took me Tenth of the book to realize I am reading a sexual book, and about Homo Sexual. Since I am not into it, I just dumped it after 16%. Could be fine for others. Not for me.

message 2123: by Ter'e (new)

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) Jacob,
I hate to waste a book.......but if it does not give me instant happiness.......then I move on to something better.
I give a book 125 pages! If i don't love it by then, it's in the GW bag.
None of us love all of them.

That's kinda funny. I know that feeling when you are getting into a book and ask yourself "what the heck am I reading" and it was not the genre you were expecting.

message 2126: by Jojo (new)

Jojo Nicholas (mystichaze) just finished reading The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan Started the next one which is the sea of monsters. even tho i have seen the movies already i wanted to start reading the series anyways.

Paul Jeff wrote: "Just finishedThe House of Silk: A Sherlock Holmes Novel by Anthony Horowitz."

Me too Jeff. I was pleasantly surprised. I've read most, if not all of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes adventures over the years & almost didn't bother reading this, thinking it would be a pale comparison to the original. A completely authentic Holmes/Watson mystery in every way, bar the author's name. Recommended.

Adam Moss | 20 comments Just finished Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham. It was his debut Tom Thorne novel and was totally absorbing with a killer twist right near the end. I'm now 40-odd pages into Six Years, the latest novel by Harlan Coben, which is warming up very nicely.

message 2129: by Barbara (last edited Mar 01, 2014 06:08AM) (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9980 comments I finished Watchman by Ian Rankin, a spy book written before the Rebus detective series. In this story, Miles Flint is a British spy. While watching an Arab suspect Flint gets distracted by a woman; the suspect gets away and kills an Israeli man. Flint thinks there was a leak in his agency and investigates. Soon afterward surveillance of terrorists is called off prematurely and Flint gets more suspicious of his agency. Pretty soon Flint's suspicions are confirmed and he sets out to uncover the dirty secrets people are trying to hide. There are a lot of flat characters in this story but it's an okay espionage novel.

Delaney series, but had more or less forgotten them. Finding the re-reads enjoyable, a bit 'old fashioned' of course, but wonderful characters and classic police procedural plots.

Jacob, have you read John Lescroat's Dismas Hardy series? Legal and Trial genre taking place in San Francisco. IMHO, excellent!

Bill I finished The Pure in Heart, a DCI Simon Serrailler mystery by Susan Hill last night and enjoyed very much. It's the second in the series, my first. She has a unique style, develops her story methodically and tells it interestingly. I had previously read her Woman in Black and enjoyed. She also can tell a mystery. Excellent and highly recommend. I am not sure I can handle any more of Susan Hill. You develop a fondness for a character and then she kills them off or they die!

I really liked that one. The next two I rated one star less than this one. I scored this one with 5 stars.

You're doing the right thing by skipping the movie. The damsel in distress was taller than Cruise, he had to reach over his head to flip the light switch, he looked like an old man driving a car while looking under the steering wheel. While Reacher fills a door frame ... um, Tom does not.

I liked the plot and it had a good ending but I just feel that it didn't grip me the way the others did. I am still very much excited to read the rest of the series and I know it was just a bump in the road. Also glad I'm not the only one that felt that way!

I think Die Trying is even better, only another 17-18 to go !
