Tad (tottman) | 139 comments I finished Gone Girl and really liked it. Now I can't wait to see the movie. Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay, so hopefully it stays true to the book.

Hi Tad:)
Unfortunetly Gillian is changing the ending of her book for the movie I guess. Not sure why,

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments I haven't read Gone Girl yet, but I had read that the ending was supposed to be changing. The authors explanation was:

Of course, the script has to be different from the book in some ways—you have to find a way to externalize all those internal thoughts and you have to do more with less room and you just don't have room for everything. But the mood, tone and spirit of the book are very much intact.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 421 comments Just finished Indigo Slam . Elvis Cole's seventh literary outing is, for both good and ill, very much like the first. If you're sweet on Cole and somehow missed this episode in his continuing saga, you'll probably be well entertained. If you're like me -- on the bubble about this series, hoping the next one will do something different -- you're not going to find "new" here. Three stars.

Indigo Slam (Elvis Cole, #7) by Robert Crais

Now reading Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk .

I LOVED Billy Lyyn's long Halftime Walk. What a great book.

Paige | 81 comments I just finished The Racketeer" by John Grisham it was a great book! It kept me guessing until the very end. Malcolm Bannister is a black Lawyer who practiced in VA and was arrested and lost his license. VA is my home State and I was familiar with the places he mentioned, that always makes the story better I think. Read it ! I think you will enjoy all the twists and turns of the plot.

Laurie (Kwiltreader) (lauriekwiltreader) | 20 comments I just finished Roadside Crosses by Jeffery Deaver. Roadside Crosses. 3 * from me...it was ok, not one of my favorite Deaver's. I found some of the technical info interesting. Throughout the book, all of my guesses for the killers were wrong so I had to finish it to find out.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished Breed by Chase Novak. Alex and Leslie Twisden have everything except a child. Hearing of a miracle-working infertility doctor in Slovenia they hop a plane to get the treatments. Fast forward ten years and the Twisdens have boy and girl twins but their home is a wreck, they're almost broke, and they lock their children's doors at night. Turns out their treatments resulted in terrible side effects. The twins run away, come across other families like theirs, and see disgusting things. There's plenty of blood and gore and tragedy in this page turner but I was dissatisfied with the ending. Nevertheless a good horror thriller.

Just finished The Stone Boy by Sophie Loubiere. It's supposed to be a psychological thriller, but ends up as more of a really fine character study with some twisty parts.

Starting Chris Pavone's The Accident. This is way out of my normal league, so wish me luck.

message 3082: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 775 comments I just finished In the Heat of the Night by John Dudley Ball .

This was a great book but aggravating at the same time. They were from the old south and very racist. A black homicide detective ends up in town and he gets disrespected every where he turns. Then an Italian girl has some stereotypes thrown at her. The plot was great though. I really liked Vigil and felt that he had the patience of a saint. He was also very smart and found his murderer.

message 3083: by Alex (new)

Alex Garneau Just finished The Girl with All the Gifts and I started The Final Cut yesterday.

Girl with all the Gifts was a definite surprise for me, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a new spin on the zombie book.

Final Cut seems to be a "generic" detective fiction story about 1/3 in, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Started reading Fallen Angel by Chuck Logan. Excellent psychological military thriller. Of course, it always helps when the main character has amnesia. Can't complain about the price since it's $2.99.
Fallen Angel by Chuck Logan

I should note that if you saw the movie HomeFront with Jason Statham, you should know that this is part of a series by Chuck Logan as well.

I've finished Summer House with Swimming Pool -- has anyone read that yet? It has to be filled with some of the most repulsive characters I've ever come across. Now starting The Devil's Road To Kathmandu.

message 3096: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments I finished Farriers' Lane by Anne Perry. An appeals court judge is murdered and Detective Thomas Pitt gets the case. It seems the judge may have been planning to look into the conviction and hanging of Aaron Godman five years before. Godman's alleged victim was crucified and Godman was Jewish - all of which inflamed the public and may have led to a hasty judgment. Could it be that someone doesn't want the old case raked up? Pitt questions lots of people who tend to repeat the same evidence/story ad infinitum. This is tedious and could have been pared down. Overall, the book is an okay mystery and it's always fun to read Anne Perry's depiction of the rigid customs, foibles, and hoity-toity attitudes of the British 'upper classes' of the 1800s.

Steve Anderson | 87 comments Just started The Private Sector by Joseph Hone and am really enjoying it. Anyone heard of the author? It's espionage/mystery and reminds me of John Le Carré. It's the first in a series. Glad I discovered it and I recommend him.

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) Has anyone read anything else by William Landay other than "Defending Jacob"? I enjoyed that book a lot and wondered if that was one of those one hit wonders or if he has other books that were just as good.
