Currently Reading? Just Finished? 2013 and on

A phenomenal historical fiction mystery.
Just started:

Another in the series by James Rollins. Mix of archaeology, historical religious fanatics, international crime & itelligence agency disputes. Should be good.

Nor do I, Nancy. I've left novels unfinished because of it.

I looked at the next book in the Jack Caffrey series, The Treatment, and decided no *%*ing way am I going to read it. I think I'm forever done with Mo Hayder.

Finished Spring Tide -- it's a Swedish crime novel written by a team of scriptwriters who among other series, have worked on Arne Dahl's books for tv.

After his engagement is broken, Constable Hamish Macbeth is looking forward to rest and relaxation in the coastal town of Skay. But when he arrives at the somewhat dismal bed and breakfast, his fellow guests include the annoying spinster, Miss Gunnery, a single man, a London family, two young "tarts", and Bob Harris, who so nags his wife that everyone wants to kill him.And then someone does. The couple who run the boarding house are not above suspicion either.
I listened to this story with great enjoyment.
The narrator has a pleasant voice and is good at accents and different characters.
The story itself is a lovely "cosy" mystery, with no sex and very little violence.
I enjoyed the plot, and there were no shortage of red herrings.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cosy murder mystery. Am going on to listen to another M.C. Beaton

Wrong Scott. I was speaking to the Scott posting about his own book. Thanks, Brenda!

I enjoyed that book so very much. Her newest one is a good ride as well, but The Little Stranger has a lot more depth.

I am now listening to Death of a Perfect Wifeand really enjoying that. I can see I am going to have to do the whole series and in order.

First book by this author, I would think my last.
This has never happened before to me, but I just could not finish this book, got to 338 pages and gave up.
Throughout the book there was no strong story, no tension, suspense, thrills, action, well not much, no build up of the story. The writing was weak, and just got thoroughly bored.
For me to put a book down, it has to be bad and it was, and the lead character was not that much of a personality.
This is why we all like different authors, books and stories.
Back to a good book with The Target by David Baldacci

Wow. I have trouble believing that. Maybe you should have started at the beginning of the series, Cold Granite. I'm on the third one now, Broken Skin; although I don't seem to be ripping through like I think I did with the first one. I just loved the first one.
But, of course, I don't think that much of Baldacci. He's another one of those authors who seem to need an editor.

Doreen admits that several men are candidates for father of the child, and the detectives question them, thinking one may be the real killer. Most of these men are kind of shady 2-dimentional characters, but they serve their purpose as possible suspects.
Many of the recurring characters in the series are on hand, including Jiffy - the ghost that gives Sarah advice, Coleman - the married cop in Sarah's life, Connie - the married cop's disturbed wife, and Sarah's friend CeCe - the tough transgender reporter. Sarah's former lover Hamilton also puts in an appearance, and Sarah is conflicted between her attraction to Hamilton and her love for Coleman.
This is just an okay cozy mystery with rather uninspired detective work. 3 stars.

It really was...I picked up the next book right away because I needed more :-)

I read those some time back (Sue Grafton) when I lived in Santa Barbara, which is her Santa Teresa. It was fun trying to match places in the book to real ones.

It's a great series, Tom. I try to read a couple a year, think I've read through Q now.. Enjoy!

Nancy, how lovely~ one of the reasons, I suspect, I enjoy her books so much.

She's a new author for me, Tim. The synopsis looks interesting. I've added her to my list to check out. Thanks.

I just finished it Bill and it really was a magnificent novel. Maybe not quite as good as her previous novel, Rubbernecker but really quite chilling.

One is intense and the other is cozy and delightful.
