Lia said that many women have no other option than to turn to prostitution. In this situation, what do many males do?

Billy | 195 comments Lia wrote: "Wow, when did I say MANY women turn to prostitution? Or the average woman will turn to prostitution? NO. I said that prostitutes turn to prostitution because they have no other option."

I guess I misinterpreted. You were saying that its impossible to find jobs, and women were forced to turn to prostitution because of this, so from that, I assumed many women turned to prostitution.

Oh the law is more then friendly to caucasian, cisgender, upper class, female rape victims. But when the victim does not fit into this minority, of course, the victim deserves it *sarcasm*.

Great site? Its a site for women to whine about how "bad" their life is. I imagine their lives can't be too bad, having internet access, assuming most of them have a home.

If they really cared about "sexism" they would be talking to government officials, the police, ect.

"Oh I was wearing a bikini...a guy looked at me!"

message 58: by Ella (new)

Ella (AWholeLotofNothing) | 386 comments @Jason
... Did you even read the posts? This is why people don't report sexual assault and harassment. Because they are "whining". You can't assume their lives are great, you don't know every individual's situation. Is it really a big deal if someone asks someone else to treat them like a person, not an object? I'm not saying people can't look at other people (unless you're being extremely stalker-ish).

message 59: by Ella (new)

Ella (AWholeLotofNothing) | 386 comments @Jason
The people do care about sexism. But people will be turned away, like most rape victims are. People do go to officials. But what have they done about it? Nothing. Because people are taught that it's normal.

If they really had these problems, why not report it to the police or law enforcement? Is being anonymous on the internet going to help anything?

"I'm 17 now, and just had to quit my job because when I handed a man his change, he felt my arms and turned to my boss saying, 'how much?' to which my boss just laughed and said I could choose the price."

This is called a joke. It happens all the time, if a middle-aged woman said this to a 17 year old boy, it wouldn't be thought of twice.

message 61: by Ella (new)

Ella (AWholeLotofNothing) | 386 comments @Jason
How is it a joke? The guy in the situation meant it as a joke, it certainly wasnt funny. He just dehumanized that woman. And it's considered normal? Great.

message 62: by Jason (new)

Jason | 42 comments Wow, you girls do take things way to seriously.

"m
when discussing shaving with my (now ex) boyfriend, he told me i had to shave my legs if he could see hair and always shave my armpits"

Oh no! Sexism! Like a girl has never told a guy to shave before?

Sure, some of the posts are saddening. But most of it are extremely mild, and these girls have nothing better to do than complain about how they get "abused".

Yes, and there are many ways of blackmailing or emotionally matipulate someone into sex, specially if the person is your official date. There are cases in which the guy makes the girl feel insecure towards her body, to feel fat, ugly, etc., in order to get her self steem lower so that it becomes easier to get whatever he wants from her. There are jerks that flirt with the girl's friends in front of her as if saying aloud "If you don't please me, one of them definitely could". I am just talking about things I SAW happening, please don't call me naïve, I know it's pathetic but still happens a lot.

The best business men and women often come from backgrounds where it is difficult to get a well paid job. Look at Alan Sugar, he started by selling T.V parts out the back of a van and now he is worth £770m.

Did I mention earlier that I live in the Third World? lol. I don' t have the smallest idea who Alan Sugar is (but dr.Google can tell me in a few minutes, I hope). All I know is the most whealthy people in Brazil are all born so (like Eike Bastista and José Sarney - maybe you could spend a moment to google them too). The only exception is the TV Wizard Silvio Santos, but even he became a ward of a rich entrepeuner and politician in the very begining of his carrer.

message 79: by Som (new)

Som What's a woman who rapes someone called, then?

A 'rapist'..

I believe rape is far worse than murder. Who has done it is only responsible for it; why, what provoked etc don't matter, it's not debatable. Women should learn martial art or better carry a gun; even better get 'Rape aXe'(google if you don't know what RapeX is, it is instant justice!)

Women aren't the only targets of rapists so I think both men and women would benefit from learning something like self defense.

message 81: by Ella (new)

Ella (AWholeLotofNothing) | 386 comments @H99
It's really sad that women are so wary of men nowadays. Because there are so many great men out there who do respect women, and most men don't harass or rape others. But it happens so often (which is odd). 99%+ of women will/have been the victim of street harassment. *sigh*. Humanity.

Yeah, in (a book whose title I can't think of right now!) the victim was slut-shamed so ferociously in school, while the rapists got no punishment at all.

It would ruin someones life. The man she accuses will forever be judged. His friends will stop talking to him so might his family. They will all abandon him. His life will never be fixed from what the person accuses him of. Where ever he turns it will be there. All because someone wanted sympathy. In my view it is pathetic that someone would do that.

message 85: by Ella (new)

Ella (AWholeLotofNothing) | 386 comments @Evan
Agreed. Also, it undermines real rape when it actually happens, making people skeptical when someone accuses someone else of rape.

I agree, though this is one reason the press really annoys me--a lot of the times rape victims that make it public suffer through horrible questions and requests to describe what happened from the press and other people like that. That could prevent someone from saying something--them being so embarrassed and horrified by potential questions, accusing, and maybe even theories blaming the victim or whatever. (Of course this doesn't always happen. But sometimes.)

Okay, I don't agree with this statement, but I wanna know your thoughts on it (though I think I know what you're going to say.) My friend said this to me once during an argument, "Rape is definitely horrible, but maybe the victim doesn't want to sue or testify against the rapist because s/he knows that the rapist has his/her own family that he/she cares about."

Yeah, like the victim should spare the rapist a trial and things like that to protect the rapist's family.

(Did he really? That's horrible!) What about Robin Thicke over here in the corner, and his song "Blurred Lines" which was basically just discussing the blurred lines of consent from the women he wanted to have sex with? (And he's married...he apparently cheated on his wife recently...I'm not really surprised.)
