Jordan | 14 comments Hi all,

Am I allowed to ask about nonfiction? I am looking for a nonfiction book (preferably relatively recently published) about the reliability and trustworthiness of eyewitness accounts and how scholars/investigators etc. decide which ones can be considered valid evidence.

Thank you for your help!

Katrina | 3 comments Check out Elizabeth F. Loftus (sorry, can't link her from my phone). She's written extensively on this, and about false memories.

I have not actually read her books, but I have read journal articles etc.

Tuck | 184 comments bizot has written 2 books looking specifically at his own imprisonment and torture. but he interrogates himself as witness to his memories and the "truth" and "justice" of what he witnessed and experienced . wonderful writing Facing the Torturer is his latest, this one was his first The Gate and though this fiction is not to-order, the protag is a judge so she analyzes past cases and her own experiences in occupied Malaysia The Garden of Evening Mists and of course the master of this topic is vollmann and his 7 vol look at violence and justice is magisterial and almost all of his vignettes involve witnesses both unreliable and victimized. Rising Up and Rising Down and i read this interesting book about liberia in where the author inadvertently investigates the "truth" of witches Chasing the Devil: A Journey Through Sub-Saharan Africa in the Footsteps of Graham Greene. but i guess all of these titles come at the topic sideways, so more of goodreads than on-topic perhaps. the tomb of the inflatable pig too, looks at the whole history and culture of paraguay as both witness and perpetrator of violence and lies At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig: Travels Through Paraguay
