Of course Aimee, anyone can do a A-Z challenge :)

Thanks Lynn :) I've never done anything like this before, but I love this challenge! I have been meaning to read many of these books and actually own a good number already, so this is a perfect excuse. I will add the X, Y and Z categories soon.. thinking I may need to 'creep' on some of the other lists to get some ideas. Good reads to us all!

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Oh that is what I was doing - creeping for difficult letter choices. Malcolm x biography is one I will use for x someday. I think it is the hardest letter. For z I have The Zookeepers Wife. Also I think the author of The Book Theif starts with a z.

Adrianna & Sarah - You can also go to listopia and do a search for lists of "books that begin with the letter x" for example. You may find some good ideas there.

Sarah | 1467 comments There was one list I found the was not very big

Sarah, excellent idea on the Book Thief's author. I've actually read The Book Thief (loved it by the way), so I searched for other books by the author and found "I am the Messenger." I also, posted "Zero Day," which I wouldn't mind reading. This in case someone else is creeping for ideas.. lol

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Your list is looking good Adriana :-)

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Next year I am going to do this challenge with authors last name all from my actual library book shelf at home. The Book Theif will be my last book. The only book I have to get for my home library to complete this challenge is Malcolm X - and this will only make a dent. Sooo much to read.

Susan Elizabeth (susan_e_lizabeth) @Adriana - I read the book thief back in March. So good! I wonder if they're teaching it in school these days?

I doubt it. Based on the boring reading lists my kids got from their highschool in years past, I sometimes wondered whether there was a deliberate attempt to make kids hate reading. Frankly, I as an avid reader had trouble finding a great book that would capture my attention in all that BORING junk, and if you happened to be a boy, you were out of luck. There were only a handful of books that didn't contain tiaras for them. When I approached the teacher with my concerns, she admitted her own lack of enthusiasm for the books, but said that it was the School District who mandated what could be read and teachers were not at liberty to divert from the list. My poor kids. Everything I did to interest them in reading was all for naught :(

I think that is a great idea, I made s list by author as well. If I finish the title set before my end date then I will start that one. My goal too was to read what I already had in my library. My library grows and grows with every new book released, I can't read fast enough. And to rip it off, my local library has a HUGE book sale evey year, and the books are all $1.00 so I squire many new title that I would nut normally have purchased at regular price, but don't mind giving a try for $1.00 one I really enjoyed was "The Girls" I don't remember the author.

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments OMG. I looked up The Girls and I actually read this several years ago. I also got it at a library sale and I need to add it to my already read list.

Oooohhhhhh, how have you got that little tick next to your entry? Do share! :)

Ha, ha.. Lynn, I don't like crossing out books (too messy for my OCD nature), so I searched the web for the html code for a check mark. Here's what you would use where you want the check mark to appear (ignore the spaces, the code must appear without spacing; however, I have to put spacing here so that it doesn't appear as a check mark :)

& # x 2 7 1 4;

Give it a try! Let me know if it works for you.

Alycia (bookhound18) I'm so excited about the check mark! I also don't like crossing them out...this is perfect. Thanks for sharing! :)

The check mark is awesome! I can't stand crossing them out either because you can't read them as clearly, but bold or italic isn't different enough. I'm definitely going to try that! Thanks for the tip! (I might be a little OCD myself!)
