Jason (jasonct) | 38 comments @Galya - well right next door to NYC, in rural eastern, CT.
But if you ever want a day away from the city I'd be happy to take you thrifting anytime!

message 165: by Ginny (new)

Ginny I just recently bought Confederacy of Dunces, The Worst Hard Time, and the one I'm really excited about, the ever elusive The Mysteries of Udolpho- a book that Jane Austin has one of her heroines in Northanger Abbey read. Austin herself read The Mysteries of Udolpho (published around 1790 I think) but didn't like it. My friends from high school just opened a used bookstore in town and they tease that I'm their best customer!

Your research project touches on Russian Literature?

message 183: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) galya wrote: "Li wrote: Your research project touches on Russian Literature?"

A bit; I'm actually looking at Russian national identity in a particular part of the Soviet period but I'm using memoirs and some literature from Russian authors as my sources =)

That's really cool. I want to take Russian Literature courses in college, but it's kind of a downer that books are read in English, because I would personally prefer reading them as original, so I'm not sure if I should.

message 185: by Jason (new)

I think it depends on who's done the translation if you read it in English (I've read them all in English because my Russian's at the beginniner's level, lol) but I agree about wanting to read them in their original languages *nods*

I'm astounded as I saw the prices for all of your books. It was so cheap. I never got that price here, the cheapest that i've got so far, was $4. and that $4 was for a battered book with broken spine, which was beyond repair- in a secondhand bookstore. how i hope i can shop at your kind of bookshop. the normal price for books here in my country would be around $36 per book (imported book). the local books sell around $15-20. Still, its hard to find such a cheap book like yours and the rest of the members of this discussion. You guys are lucky!

And back to the discussion topic, i bought 4 books last week:
The Forgotten Garden
The Thirteenth Tale
The Viscount Who Loved Me
The Duke And I
* all 4 books for $75 :-(

i'll be reading those as soon as possible.

Yes, I'm so happy that we have Strand here. I think that would be the one thing I would miss most if I were to leave NYC.
Do you guys have Salvation army? Jason buys his books there (I hope that's correct). =)

I got some more treasures.

The Lovely Bones $1
Interview With the Vampire $0.48
The 158-Pound Marriage $0.48

No, we dont have Salvation Army. Not even any bookstores that sell books under $2.However, there are few bookstores with great prices range from $17-$9. I considered myself lucky with those prices. I just have to settle with $32 a book :-(

message 199: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Elizabeth I need to stop buying books. Someone MAKE ME STOP :) lol

The Little Stranger, A Caribbean Mystery, The Captive..

I have a break at work today, and I'm already planning a trip to Barnes and Noble. Whenever I'm upset or whatever, my shopping therapy isn't clothes (that's more like shopping punishment). It's books :D
