Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments I came across this blog post at Addicted2Heroines. In it they ask which series endings exceeded your expectations and which left you disappointed?

Cat listed Alpha (Shifters, #6) by Rachel Vincent as one of the best series endings and I completely agree. She listed Shadow Heir (Dark Swan, #4) by Richelle Mead as one of the worst endings. I haven't read that one yet, so I can't comment.

Which series do you think had the best or worst ending?

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Best
Outside In (Insider, #2) by Maria V. Snyder When He Was Bad (Magnus Pack, #3.5) by Shelly Laurenston Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes The Reckoning (Darkest Powers, #3) by Kelley Armstrong

Worst
Losing Lila (Lila, #2) by Sarah Alderson Grave Secret (Harper Connelly, #4) by Charlaine Harris Final Boarding (Turbulence, #8) by Jordan Castillo Price

I'm pretty sure Sookie sucked though I didn't read it. Didn't have to. Same with Dark Swan.

LOL! I've heard it does, but I've got to read it. Just not right now.

I definitely agree w/your BEST list, Ames. I haven't read those in your WORST.

Some others I'd add to my BEST:
Endgame (Sirantha Jax, #6) by Ann Aguirre Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan Blue-Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane, #5) by Jaye Wells Head Rush (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #3) by Carolyn Crane

Can't think of any WORSTs off the top of my head.

message 4: by D.G. (last edited May 23, 2013 08:54AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I haven't read Requiem (Delirium, #3) by Lauren Oliver but some of my friends hated it so I'm confidently adding it in the Worst list.

Best
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7) by J.K. Rowling

message 5: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Good to see Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves, #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes there, I might go try again with #2 and finish the series.

Also glad to see you think Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan is a good ending! Can't wait to read that soon :)

I don't really like (view spoiler) so I'm not sure how I feel about Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness . I don't think I particularly liked the end of Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins either.

I do like a happy, satisfying, no-loose-ends ending!

message 6: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Oh and I completely agree with Head Rush (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #3) by Carolyn Crane - LOVED that whole series and the ending didn't disappoint. I feel though we deserved it after the cliffhanger/ending of #2 :P

message 7: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Yeah, of the three books, Mockingjay was probably my least favorite. I guess it ended as I'd expected, but not as I'd hoped.

LOL! Ditto, Josie!

chucklesthescot I'll let you know when I finally catch up on my series!

message 9: by Lee (new)

Lee | 357 comments the only series with a disappointing end that comes to mind is the
Morganville Vampires,
after 15 good books we get an ending that was rubbish it was kind of squeezed in at the very end of the last book and left not only me but a lot of other readers wondering about some unanswered points.

message 10: by Lis (last edited Feb 07, 2014 04:58AM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments One of the worst was definitely Soooooookie.... What a shame, I really liked the series.

I will probably get slammed but I also didn't care for the ending of the Divergent trilogy. Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth I did like Richelle Mead's ending to her Georgina Kincaid series Succubus Revealed (Georgina Kincaid, #6) by Richelle Mead

Also liked the Aftertime ending Horizon (Aftertime, #3) by Sophie Littlefield . The Weather Warden series Total Eclipse (Weather Warden, #9) by Rachel Caine and Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson Guardian series Moon Sworn (Riley Jenson Guardian, #9) by Keri Arthur

message 11: by Nichole (last edited Feb 06, 2014 05:49PM) (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments I agree with you about Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth !

message 12: by CJ (new)

CJ | 6 comments The ending of Allegiant seriously ticked me off! I don't even want to take my son to see the Divergent movie now because then he'll want to read the series and I just can't recommend the series after Allegiant.

message 13: by Lee (new)

Lee | 357 comments Lis - One of the worst was definitely Soooooookie.... What a shame, I really liked the series.

I forgot about this series the last two books were poor I recently got the first 10 books for a bargain price so I will be reading them again soon. If
I am up to it I will lend the last two books in the series from our local library.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 1009 comments This series ending was a little rushed - I wish there was one more book - but it ended well Red Mortal (Gods of Midnight, #4) by Deidre Knight

I think Succubus Revealed (Georgina Kincaid, #6) by Richelle Mead could have done without one book. Like it could have been condensed down to 5 instead of 6 books but the series ended pretty decent.

I didn't like Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead so it's a DNF series for me. I read spoilers and I did not like what they said. I already disliked the h so reading the spoilers validated for me that she is just awful.

Series ends on a cliffhanger. Beyond irritating.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Catherine wrote: "Worst series ending ever Undead to the World: The Bloodhound Files

It was quite mean to end the series like that. Maybe the author was hoping to continue the series but was not contracted for another book?

message 17: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Just had a look at his website and Undead to the World is definitely the last in the series, and it doesn't look like there was meant to be any more.

He is more a mystery & sci-fi writer, so I'm guessing he likes the cliffhanger, make you think ending style. Bummer as I've got most of the series but haven't started reading them yet.

He might have been sort of hoping for a seventh book, but he knew when he was writing it that the story arc was at a natural end. If he had just written a proper ending, I would have said that it was a good series and felt good about recommending it. There were still a some good moments in the series, but I would never recommend anyone to start this without a huge warning that they would end up being extremely frustrated when they got to the last page.

message 19: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments GTK... I have a few from that series too. No need to bump it up.

message 21: by Kat (new)

Kat Klein | 6 comments I wouldn't call Sookie a bad ending, although I know I'm in the minority. Sun worshiping Sookie would have made a bad vampire, though.

One of my particular favorite endings was Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning although I'm still glad it's not the complete end! I also have to agree that The Reckoning (Darkest Powers, #3) by Kelley Armstrong was great! Probably the best young adult I've read in a long time.

The worst was Twilight's Dawn (The Black Jewels, #9) by Anne Bishop a series of novellas set after the Black Jewel series, which totally ruined the series for me. I have since developed a pretty abiding hatred for unequal lifespans in my romances.

Which reminds me of another best ending Timeless (Parasol Protectorate, #5) by Gail Carriger . Best way I've ever seen to deal with that particular dislike of mine.

I had no probs with who she ended up with. It was the manner in which she was so wishy washy and as if she didn't really care either way. It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

The Sookie from the first book was a hell'va lot more than the Sookie from the last book. So instead of growing as a character she just faded into nothingness.

Sandra | 25908 comments And Kat I agree about Timeless

message 24: by Nairabell (last edited Feb 12, 2014 09:04AM) (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments I know it's a recent end but I think Up From the Grave (Night Huntress, #7) by Jeaniene Frost is one of the best series ends I've read in a really long time. Ties everything up, even teeny storyline hints from way back in the series and manages to show pretty much all the characters endings.

I'm kind of annoyed the Bloodhound files end on a cliffhanger - I loved the first but hadn't managed to pick up the others yet. Now I'll be waiting a while.

message 25: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments GTK re: Bloodhound Files. :/ Maybe a spin-off is in the future?

I agree, Nairabell, I though the NH finale was done well.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I didn't know that it was the last NH book. Even better if the ending is satisfactory.

Me either until I got it. There were supposed to be 8 but she has an explanation on her site about why it's ending at 7 - essentially that's the storyline she had and she didn't want to do a filler book to stretch it. I really respect her decision.

message 28: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Another ending I didn't know was coming ~ Banishing the Dark (Arcadia Bell, #4) by Jenn Bennett , Jenn Bennett's Arcadia Bell series. I was so sad to realize it was the series finale, but I loved the book and the series. I think she did a great job wrapping things up. I just wish it wasn't the end.

Better to end on a high note than stretch it until it breaks.

perfect ending on The forever Song, that was a good series
from start to finish

This is one big blunder below

set of three books called The Eve series

Anna Carey forgot to write the ending to the last book in the series ?

But hey, she resolved it by adding it to the later editions
of the last book in the series not much use if like me
your reading an earlier edition. So if you ever buy this
series make sure it has the epilogue at the end of the third book
because without it, it suddenly stops mid flow and your left
wondering, what`s going on ? Its like someone has ripped out
the last chunk of the book. I am amazed this got through
to publication and went un-noticed

message 34: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Lee, I just checked her website, thinking that the epilogue would be there.

Not only isn't it there, but she had it online for only a few weeks, and then removed it. She suggests you go to the library and borrow the paperback, and read that.

Very, very unsatisfactory!!!!!

That would be enough for me to Blackball her!!!!!

Well this is the problem, because I have yet to see one of these
paperbacks she mentions, because over here the current paperback
does not contain it, as its in our library and they have checked
their system and they all have the same ones.

Add to this its also been left out of both the audio CD box edition
as well as the Audible Unabridged, Audiobook, the ebook and the
Kindle editions. That Audible copy is at least £25 sterling to buy.
Not happy in our library about this

Add another to this as she stated on her web site a few months back
and I quote "I have moved on from this" blah ,blah, blah and goes on
to promote the new series she has written

Well frankly so have I and will not be reading any thing else
from this author

I'm with you, the Sookie ending was bad. The changes to Eric, and her choice of who to give a relationship a try with, felt forced and unlike the characters.

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 284 comments The first that comes to mind is the Georgina Kincaid series, I was so disappointed by the 6th book!
Sookie's last book and Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth were also a let down.
And I really hate it when you think that the series is ending and new books appear suddenly :(

I have not read the Allegiant series yet,
it seems to be coming a trend to add more to a
successful series after it finished only time
will tell if this is a good formula.

I recently read the Vampire Academy series (6 books)
and enjoyed it, I noticed the spin off series Bloodlines.
I was unsure but thought I would give it a go, turns out
its really good and I am enjoying it just as much, in fact
now I think about it,its even better. That being said I bet
that this is a rarity.

I enjoyed the Vampire Academy series way more than the Bloodlines series. Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6) by Richelle Mead was a decent ending but I would have preferred to be Adrian that got the girl. This is probably the reason that I can't imagine him with Sydney and I don't enjoy Bloodlines as much.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 1009 comments I thought Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor ended well though it does leave you panting for more.
