Ami I am just about to to pre-order it too :)

DaisyGirl Just got it. I'm starting...

DaisyGirl I'm the kind of kid that keeps spare Swiffers in his closet ...
Hehe. I like that. :)

Ami So far, I'm liking the writing. It's so smooth!! Even if I hadn't been far, though, only about 6%.

DaisyGirl Urinal etiquette. LOL.

I just finished urinal etiquette too! ha!

I finding this really fresh! An interesting take having the kid being openly accepted all these years and actually choosing to be in the closet at this point.

I know, right! I'm really enjoying this so far. Rafe is an interesting character and I love the twist of trying to rid himself of the "gay" label by playing it straight.

DaisyGirl "Gretchen" and "Sleepy" ... I love how these kids name their cars. *sigh* The silly things you do when you're young ... oh, wait ... I'm no where near young and my car's name is "Lady." :S

Sun This book reminds me a little bit of Almost Like Being in Love. The humor! There have been parts that I am CRACKING up!

@Ami - I feel that some parts are very "American". Are you noticing this? Like for the understated humor, are the references very American-centric? (<-I know that's not a word! ha!)

DaisyGirl Justin Auerbach, lover of wandering naked ladies..." LOL. I love it!

Ami @Susan: Yes, the humor is very American. Which means I could probably missing some of the references. It was one of my problems with Konigsberg's first book as well, where it was too football-centric and I had no clues about the game. But it didn't matter, I still loved the characters in that book and the story.

Ami I just added this quote because I loved it so much --

“It’s hard to be different,” Scarborough said. “And perhaps the best answer is not to tolerate differences, not even to accept them. But to celebrate them. Maybe then those who are different would feel more loved, and less, well, tolerated.”

I thought it was a very thoughtful discussion about "tolerance" and "acceptance" of differences. It's really good on how it should be "celebrate" instead. I really, REALLY find this as one of the most memorable scenes in the book so far.

Sun Lenore's buried under a ton of work so she may not get to start this soon. I had the day off today so I plowed through it and just finished! I loved it. I thought it was hilarious. I'm not a huge fan of how it ended...but that's my issue. :)

DaisyGirl Just finished. Definitely funny and I liked the writing. While Rafe's openly straight charade started out as interesting and novel, however, the lies and half-truths he was "forced" to tell burst that bubble near the 55% mark. And, I most definitely did not like the ending but that's my deal.

Ami Wow, both you and Susan did not like the ending!! I loved it just fine though. Interested to read your complete opinion, Daisy.
