Reading Gone by James Patterson. So far, this Michael Bennett book isn't as good as the rest of the series. Hopefully it picks up but I'm over halfway through.

Matt (batteryacid) Just finished Small Island by Andrea Levy. One of those few life altering reads that should be a compulsory read for all book lovers!

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 71 comments Let me correct my statement, Stevo. It was the longest amount of time I have owned a SK novel without reading it.

message 654: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Just completed The Dark Half The Dark Half by Stephen King a solid supernatural thriller. But like most King works I thought it could have been a bit trimmed down nevertheless it was still better than most other books I have read in the genre.

message 663: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Finished Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer (Theodore Boone, #1) by John Grisham , got back to a John Grisham book after a long time & came away disappointed yet again. Grisham's foray into YA is pretty bad & the only reason to read any more of the series is a cliffhanger ending. How a once great author has fallen so far is beyond me.

message 679: by Aditya (new)

Aditya I kept putting off reading Ted Dekker for a long time as he writes Christian fiction. I am a staunch atheist & was not a Christian to begin with. Finally read Thr3e Thr3e by Ted Dekker & must say it was a mistake not reading Dekker for so long. It is an excellent psychological thriller & heartily recommended to all fans of the sub-genre.

Yes I can't put it down you have to read it. I wish I didn't have to work so much or I'd know what happens because I'd be done the pages go by so fast.

I built the website for the movie Congo. And I have to admit that the movie is nowhere near as good as the book; (at the premiere screening the marketing folks kept asking each other, "how the hell are we going to promote THAT?") The website however was great... one of the biggest movie promo websites ever, one that violated all the rules that lawyers later put in place to keep from being sued. For example, we allowed users to write creative resumes and submit them to apply for future hypothetical expeditions run by TraviCom. Yes, we invented a whole list of other Travicom adventures outside of the Congo. The problem was, a few folks were convinced that the events were real and kept asking, "where do I go to get on the boat to Sumatra so that I can help track down those giant spiders with the venom that cures cancer."

Aditya Reading Four Past Midnight Four Past Midnight by Stephen King . Finished the first story The Langoliers which was a good read.

Has to be amongst the top 3 books King has written & surely his best horror book.

Wow your line of work must have been very interesting, being associated with a Hollywood project in any capacity must have been an amazing experience. From what you say you guys did a wonderful job regarding the website but back in those early days of CGI promoting a movie with a talking gorilla would have been tough as it would always have been regarded as a cheesy flick. Imagine how different the film would be had it been done with the CGI available these days like the ones shown in the recent Planet of Apes remake (though the film left a bit to be desired).

I was a toddler when the movie was released & like you said it was nothing special so had not really taken the trouble to check it out. But I am interested to know for what other movies had you built websites & whether Crichton played any part in the making of the movie like providing some creative input every now & then.

I was part of the Paramount Digital Entertainment Group so I didn't really work on the movie itself. But Kennedy Marshall (the movies producer and director) supervised the production of the site, and they were very demanding. They were responsible for all the contests and the deep information on Gorillas. They also set it up so that visitors to the site could e-mail members of an actual congo expedition that was going on during the release of the movie. I also worked with them on the creation of the Indian in the Cupboard site which was even more imaginative than Congo. But that's when I lawyers clamped down and started limited the input we could get from our users. They were afraid people might sue us because they might think that the creative input they gave us at the sight might be seen in some other Paramount Picture. My favorite site to work on was Clueless... that really was a lot of fun. I also did the site for Virtuosity, a movie with Denzel Washington, and the Home Video site for Mission Impossible I. Paramount felt that no one understood the plot of MI1 - so we designed so games whose purpose was actually to explain the plot.

Peter | 16 comments Hello Gang, I am Pete A. O'Brien. I have read MOST of SK's books (not ALL, as most claim Ha Ha) I started when I was young, my first was SALEM'S LOT (which was VERY SCARY in my early teens). Stephen is my favorite author, I'm reading THE TOMMYKNOCKERS right now, it is a wonderful read, not too scary or amazing, but a WONDERFUL,MYSTERIOUS story.

message 697: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments I'm reading "It"...which is a huge feat for me cuz I'm terrified of clowns. It has taken me 28 years, but I finally got brave...lol. Last Fall I was heading out on a 3-hour road trip to the cabin and decided I wanted to try an audio book, pretty much just to say that I had done it. I decided it would definitely be a Stephen King novel cuz my son, who is 12 (about the same age I was when I started reading SK) had mentioned a few times that he wanted to start reading my SK novels. I looked at the library and the only one available was "It". Nope. I passed right over that and kept looking. Clowns ~~shudder~~, evil clowns, even worse. But there was nothing else I was interested in, so I got it. I was pleasantly surprised by how captivating it was. My son really liked it, too. We were even a little disappointed when we arrived at the cabin and had to turn it off for 3 days...lol. This audio book, however, is over 45 hours long! Yikes! After the road trip I knew I wouldn't have time to listen to the rest, so I started a hunt for it at used book stores and online cuz I had to have it in hard cover, that's how I have to read Stephen King. Just me? One of my quirks I guess. It took a few weeks, but I found it and just continued from where the audio book left off. I had put it aside for awhile, so busy, not a lot of time to read. But I just picked it up again last week and I just want to keep reading. I wish I could just read all day...damn work and life and stuff getting in my way. Lol! I'm only about half- way through Part Two right now. It's gonna take me awhile cuz I'm a very slow reader, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

So, I assume that you liked the first 2 fifty shades books if you're on book 3. Did you? I have to say that I enjoyed them, and the audio books even more (yeah I read them and then listened to the audio.) I'm a 3 books at a time person too. (right now I'm reading Celtic Blood, listening to 50 shades and Joyland on audio.) I've always got an audio book or two and a kindle book going at the same time. I'll probably post a long review of the complete 50 shades series here one of these days, but it would be good to know what you think.
