CatBookMom | 1082 comments Yesterday I got an email announcing that AudioGO (US) is merging with Downpour.com. AudioGO is the US branch of what used to be BBC Audio.

Downpour has only one monthly membership deal, $12.99 for one audiobook, but that pricing is higher than Audible's best offers (platinum annual = 24 books @ $9.56 each). They do have monthly freebies and sales; right now there's a code to get one book for $6.95.

I've bought a couple of these deals, and taken them up on a freebie or two, but I don't go to Downpour and shop the way I do at Audible.

Does anyone else buy from Downpour?

Linda Baker (omnireader) | 7 comments I do, but as you say I have the monthly plan and don't buy as much as at audible. The selection has not been as wide but as I do like AudioGo (formerly BBC Audio Books America)I think it's a good move for both companies. I had a very weird technical problem at Downpour recently. Customer Service was very helpful, kept giving me free credits in fact, so my overall impression is very favorable.

Tomerobber | 193 comments I have the monthly plan for Downpour . . . so far I have purchased 30 books . . . although they also provide content to Audible.com as well as through their own site . . . sometimes they have books not available from Audible. So this pairing up with AudioGo will be interesting . . . hopefully providing even more titles.

Chrissie | 1529 comments I buy from Downpour. I pick up titles not available at Audible. On the whole Audible has more. I started at Downpour b/c they had a Steinbeck that was not available at Audible.

Gary (mrgrumblebee) | 8 comments I buy CDs and downloads from DownPour because Audible DRM titles are useless for half the ways I listen to books.

I'm eager to see more titles at DownPour, does any know when AudioGo titles will begin showing up?

message 7: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments I have talked with Downpour about the fact that so many titles are not available outside the US. I have been told that an international site will be opened. In this way more books should become available to international customers. :0) Their service is helpful.

Gary (mrgrumblebee) | 8 comments I can at least confirm Linda's comment since receiving this from DownPour customer care: "We currently do not have any information regarding BBC title availability on Downpour, but rest assured all titles available with AudioGo will be available with Downpour. We will be updating our catalog once all titles have been migrated."

Tomerobber | 193 comments Downpour does have some titles available from AudioGo . . . if you look at the cover displayed it usually has that displayed. My observation so far is that all the titles I've seen are abridged . . . which I never buy.
