That's what comes of me guessing rather than Googling :D.
But you're only partly right as the full 50 stories cover decades of his cases and almost all of them occur post 1916. "The Chocolate Box", however, refers to a case that took place when Poirot was still in the Belgian Police Force and though no actual date is given,the fact that he is in the police still puts it prior to the "Mysterious Affair at Styles."
Alternatively, there's "The Idol House of Astarte" in "The Thirteen Problems", an early Miss Marple collection. An elderly doctor narrates an event that took place when he was a young man. "The Thirteen Problems" takes place in the early 1930's, but refers to past cases. If we assume the doctor is at least 60 when he's telling the story and at the most 30 when the events occurred, then they must have taken place in the early 20th or possibly late 19th century.
I think "The Thumb Mark of St Peter" might be earlier as well, but I can't be sure.
