Thriller but not TOO heavy... read it 10 years ago when I was in middle school.

Spoilers involved

Girl gets kidnapped. I think she was a babysitter maybe. I don't know though. She has a boy she likes involved in the story. Her parents are looking for her with the police and I remember details of their home and the chaos.

A school bus was involved I believe. The girl is brought somewhere like a cabin and the book describes the capture cooking on the stove there maybe? The girl ends up fighting him and getting away...I think.

I can't remember details well and I may be mixing up several books but I KNOW it involved a kidnapping and school bus and NO, it is not the book "ransom."

The cover had newspaper cutout letters that formed the title. You know... like a ransom letter would look.

Please help! Thank you!

Hailey there have been several other threads in the group on this theme. Perhaps you should do a quick search for them (I believe that a few are Solved) and the book in question was not Ransom in either title (Five Were Missing being the other title for this book.)

Sarah (sarahatothek) | 39 comments Doesn't match everything you mentioned, but one of the books you're remembering parts of might be Baby-Sitting is a dangerous job by Willow Davis Roberts

Cover as described.
Maggie's taking care of her four-year-old sister for a week. On Monday morning, she puts Courtenay on the bus to school. That afternoon, Courtenay doesn't come home. She never made it to school that day. She's missing. The detectives looking for Courtenay have hardly any clues. Then Maggie starts getting threatening phone calls... and she thinks she's being followed. Whoever took Courtenay is after her, too.

Hum, the OP doesn't seem to have come back since the original post. She/he is still somewhat active--was still active as of June--but with not having come back, probably isn't getting messages about the other suggestions.

As soon as the PM problem is fixed, maybe we need to send a PM about this.

Hailey was last active in June 2013. Should we move to Abandoned or give another push?

bookel | 4022 comments I sent a PM just now. Be good to try that first before moving it anywhere. Missing Since Monday does involve a school bus, and has cut out letters on the cover. Seems a good match. And the main character was supposed to be babysitting I think.

When their little sister doesn't come home from school, fifteen-year-old Maggie and her brother must face up to some deep, dark secrets about their natural mother, whom they must consider as a kidnapping suspect.

"Maggie and her older brother are left in charge of their young 4 year old half-sister, while their parents take a long awaited honeymoon. Maggie put her sister on the bus that morning, but she never comes home from Pre-school. They realize shes been kidnapped. Which reveals resentment and deception from past family members. Plenty of drama and tension. Source: School Library Journal"

I don't believe there's a cabin in that.
