Judithe how did I miss this? I had no idea she had another series, lol. Off to explore my library system and see if they have this one.

message 355: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments This is her pre-Jane series (trilogy). I fell in love with the characters. And I do like her female leads very much. Definitely pick it up if you have the chance!

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments And I am also done with this week's book for Angels & Demons. So now am I am bingo-bookless. LOL.

Book: Angelfall by Susan Ee
Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee
Review:
This was a re-read for me. I read the book before it was picked up by a mainstream big house publisher several years ago. Susan Ee's Angelfall has had a lot of success, has been re-released and the sequel is due on this fall. I needed to re-read before the fall and it is now available in audio -- so I re-read by audio. The narration is fantastic. If you are fans of YA, urban fantast, post-apoc books or angel books - - (and one of those by the way) -- you will love this book. in fact, if you like to read good fast paced genre based books told from the first person -- then pick this book up. It is fun, moving and suprisingly unique.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Week 5: Angels & Demons
Demon Angel (The Guardians, #1) by Meljean Brook
7/5/13 **** stars

Review:
Worst cover ever but really good book. Contrary to how the cover looks, this is a dark urban fantasy that reprises the story of the fall of Lucifer from Heaven. There are demons, Angels, Guardians and Nosferatu that resulted from this fall. Interwoven in this very complex storyline is an 800 year old romance that is truly the core of the story. There are moments when the story gets bogged down in too much dialogue (as the characters discuss weighty issues on the nature of sin and temptation) but overall it is an amazing book.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments You guys are doing great. I have been reading in between watching the dogs. I am hoping to finish a book this weekend but not sure since I have 2 dogs here and don't want them to kill each other. The one is mine and the other is a puppy. Mine likes the other but doesn't enjoy all the barking or playing he wants to do.

Happy Reading!!

message 362: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Sounds like an exciting weekend ahead of you, Monica!! And yes, sometimes you have to watch the older dogs carefully. They can accidentally hurt a puppy when they are only correcting their behavior. But it sounds fun and I hope you find some time to read.

message 363: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments So our current status is 6 shelves called and we need to finish 5? Just making sure I know where we are. :)

message 364: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Yes, that is our current status. We are close on several of the shelves. I think Monica is close to finishing Bourne and that will give us another stamp.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Cool thanks Leslie.

message 379: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I've read all of those Monica and they are all pretty different. It depends on what you want. Hunger Games and Life As We Knew It are very fast and easy reads.

message 380: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Great job on finishing Grave Mercy, Kate! And congrats to your sister. I have lots of friends who run, but not something I've ever done. But I've been walking a lot lately and have just lost 25 lbs.
I'll be reading Abandon the Night by Joss Ware.

message 381: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Leslie that is amazing!!

message 382: by Monica (new)

message 387: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I have to admit that I really hate most distopian fiction. I'm glad y'all like it so much.
@Monica - But I have read most of the books you were looking at to read except Life as We Knew It. I'll be interested to see what that one is about.

And Judithe, what exactly is interviews for checking English levels? Is that something to do with testing?

message 388: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments It's a test, oral after they pass the written one. And it's national, so LOTS or people take it, three times a year (so 3 Sundays a year for interviewers...good money, long day.) This one falls in a particularly busy time (for me...)

Life is crazy! LOL, but work is better than none, and am almost finished with tomorrow's lesson prep...will be reading SOON! Son spent the day surfing and reading. Intensely jealous!

message 389: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments What age takes the test? Is it to get into school or to exit school? America has national tests (two different kinds) that high school students take to get into college. Also public schools (state run)have to administer tests at different points in order to make sure the students are on target. All 4 of my kids went to Catholic school and they have their own testing. But no one does Oral examination except in college.

message 390: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments This is an optional test at several different levels. Applicants are from elementary school to adult. There are a variety of these for things including English, kanji (Chinese characters, but the ones used in Japan), math, Korean, and many more. They're especially useful as kids who are applying for admission into the next level of education (mostly high school and university), but also is a hobby for many people.

message 391: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments What a great idea! I forgot that you are from America for a moment. Sorry!

message 392: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Well I finished my Sookie book and will be posting my review. Now I will take the time to look for my book for the new week and to read one of my other ones.

message 393: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Great Monica!! We are waiting on a review from Kate and now your review. That is awesome!!

message 394: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Not to sway your decision at all, Monica - but since Kate finished Grave Mercy, you could read Moon Called and that would give us another stamp. Or you could read Marked and that would give us another stamp. And since you finished the Sookie book we have our Free Space stamp. We are definitely moving in the right direction!

message 395: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I have both those books next to me. And will be picking up one of them. Hopefully I will finish Bourne this week too.

Book: All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris

Review:

I am finally continuing on my Sookie series. It has been awhile since I picked this series up. I almost forgot all that had happened in the previous book. Sookie is helping the Vamps again in this book.

The Vamps are having a summit and the queen of Louisiana is also up for trial because she supposedly murdered her Arkansas King fiance. Since Sookie is a telepath and is a witness to the murder the queen requires her presence at the Summit. She will be paid for this service.

I felt that Sookie has misgivings about helping the vamps but also fears that if she doesn't she might not be able to live either. Her friend Tara, Sam and others try to talk her out of helping them. Her boyfriend Quinn will be there running things for the vamps too.

Sookie is her usual entertaining self. You also get to see Barry the other Telepath in this book. Not sure what I think of him.

message 396: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Great strategy idea Leslie. :)

Monica, I happily remember the days I was rating the Sookie series all 5s! Enjoy the series while you can. I would love to go back to the good old fun it used to be. I still haven't read the recent release, but I guess I should one of these days.

message 397: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Regina, I started the Sookie series awhile ago and just don't pick it up to read it. This challenge really gave me that opportunity. I do enjoy the books and will try to see if I have the rest and possibly pick it up. I have heard different things about the last book.

Leslie I keep looking at the first page to see which week we are close to finishing to make sure I really read that book the most plus I look at the card to get an idea of which will help us get bingo first.

Okay getting off to read.
