Adam Bolander | 17 comments This is not meant to be offensive, but I've noticed that most people either absolutely love or completely despise Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight series. Personally, I hate her books and don't think they deserve the hype they're getting, but I'm also adamant in the belief that a story should be judged by those who enjoy it, not those who hate it, because the ones who enjoy it are the ones it was written for. What are your thoughts on Stephanie Meyer and her books?

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I'm not a fan of Twilight either. But sadly, I have to admit I've finished the series. Very disappointed!

Trisha | 30284 comments as a writer, yeah, I wouldn't say she's writing masterpieces.

But I won't fault her. She did an amazing job of getting a HUGE audience excited about reading again. Look at the 1000's of spin offs, pulled-to-print FanFiction and even manga!

AND look at what it's done for movies! her and J.K. Rowling both seem to have inspired a huge push for YA books turned to movies - especially trilogies.

I think she's amazing. :)

And if she finally gets around to writing Host #2 and #3 or ANY of the Twilight books from any other POV.
I'd buy them. :)

Adam Bolander | 17 comments Personally, my issues with her stem from the messages she puts in her books. I just don't think the relationships she idolizes are healthy.

Trisha | 30284 comments I think there are FAR worse out there! She did good with the bad.

It depends on the age range, but I would say the alpha male "bad boy" type male figure - overbearing, possessive....that's EVERYWHERE. (trust me, I don't like these types of boys so I am hyper aware of them!)

and your Mary Sue (Bella). She's always been out there too.

I don't think Stephanie Meyer created any new characters that aren't already in 1000's of books out there.

I just think she created a chemistry and a new slant on paranormal that was interesting to read.

I have daughters and I don't worry about either of them reading Twilight and thinking they must find their overbearing, can't have male friends, rip my battery out so I can't leave Boyfriend.

Gino Alfonso | 186 comments I'm sorry Trisha but that made no sense and honestly a bit convoluted not to be mean, but the whole "Mary Sue," analogy (really?) -it might have made sense in your head but proof read your messages before placing them, I tell this to people on Facebook all the time. Again not to be mean.

As far as Meyers being a good or great writer? I prefer The Host to Twilight but I'm a little tired of the teen supernatural hype anyway, it usually dies down after awhile, but it just keeps going and going. The fact she said she wrote the entire Twilight Saga in 3 months
is bull, but I wouldn't scoff at anyone who recieves that kind of success, we'd all be so lucky! Right place right time.

Trisha | 30284 comments wow, thanks Gino.

Your critisizm is noted. But, I'm sorry, I'm not changing anything for you.

if you don't like my message, no offense, go ahead and ignore it.

Gino Alfonso | 186 comments Hope you're not a writer, not a great way to respond to critism. :)

Trisha | 30284 comments I'm not. for all you know, I'm a 16 year old girl who likes to read Twilight.

it's a YA Group!!! You do realize that right??

I'm just your average reader. I never knew I needed to major in writing to be in this group. This guy asked for an opinion. To imply I need to live up to your writing standard to comment is ridiculous.

and you bashing me will leave others scared and they will NOT write a comment here.

Do you realize that ?? Who your audience is?

You will silence people with comments like that.

We have MANY younger teens in this group. I hope this isn't the type of comments you would leave for them.

Gino Alfonso | 186 comments I'm sorry I thought you were a different Trisha from another group that was very uncalled for of me.

message 11: by Lolita (last edited May 30, 2013 12:29PM) (new)

Lolita | 23 comments I thought Twilight was ok, it was not as great as I would have liked, but hey, if that gets people to read more... why not?

I think her stories should not be takes as seriously as some people take it. They are more of a light read, then really books I'd analyse.

Also I really did like the Host, so that depends on the storyline I guess

message 12: by Troy (new)

Troy CLE (troycle) | 1 comments i have not read the books but every woman that I know who has says they are poorly written but the just LOVE them. She obviously did something right. The funny thing is that my first two books were edited by the same editor of Twilight.
