Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite(Written over 25 years ago this book preceeds the romanticized vampires of the Twilight Series; it taps into the gothic as a way of 'speaking out' much like female authors used the gothic genre to speak out around the turn of the 20th century.)
I generally prefer Liquor & Prime to most of Brite's other works. (It's the former culinary school student in me) But since those titles don't offer much to work with, let's go with this one:Love in Vein: Twenty Original Tales of Vampiric Erotica

A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott(I started reading this years ago, but never finished because I was expecting Little Women. Now that I know so much more about Alcott and her fight for relevancy in the boys' club of writing and publishing I should give it another try.)

My father was amused & delighted that I rediscovered the old school soul & blues music he used to play when I was little. This book filled in a few knowledge gaps for me.
