Tldw: This is the first book I've rated a "5" in a long while.

Good stuff. I definitely identified with parts of the story, though not all of it. My mom was a librarian, not an evil witch for instance.

I think not getting all the references inevitably lessens the book for me though.

Excellent reflection. I find myself saying, "I wondered the same thing too!" And it's about the obscure stuff, like not knowing ordnance was a word but instead a misspelling, or becoming so indignant at a blurb on a book comparing it to some other Grand Masterpiece.

I think I'm going to cry.

I'm only just starting the book (about 1/4 in) but I thought this was a beautiful whiteboard that puts into words what I've been feeling as I've been listening.

Great way to set the tone for this reading.

Thanks for the kind comments, all. :) I meant it about the comparison to Ready Player One. Like that book, this one may only really 'work' for those who shared its protagonist's experiences, but for that audience, I think it packs a great deal into an elegant package.

Edited to add: yes I know it's technically not "seconding" the sentiments of greatness but you all knew what I meant.

I was just commenting to my wife last night that this particular video works very well as a "book trailer." Far more effective than any of the handful of official book trailers that I've seen, especially since it does a better job than the jacket summary in setting my expectations at an appropriate level.
