you are breaking my heart, Angela. I loved this book so much. Just focus on the beautiful writing.

Angela M Beth , you know how much I love The Goldfinch so I do love the writing here just not the story and these characters .

Maybe the book resonated with me because I was also really stupid at that age (although not in the same way as this crowd). I guess you have to get in touch with your inner college student so that you can relate to what Richard was feeling.

Christen Zoccolante (ZZoccolante) | 2 comments Haha. Michael. I have so many books on my bookshelf and yet I went to a thrift store the other day and came out with a stack of five more. Words are my favorite kind of drug. :)

message 1016: by Lela (new)

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments Just finished Deborah Crombie's latest, "Dwell in Darkness." Loved it - one of my favorite series. Am reading several - "Killing Plato" being one of them....had it a long time...finally decided to read it as a vacation read. It's a thriller. Lots of macho talk and some action/love story in crisis/moral issues/funny & snarky lines/ set in Thailand but main character is from USA. Also, listened to "Snowman" by Jo Nesbo in car. Drove extra 5 hours in one day so could finish it. My first by Nesbo. Not my last, I hope. Audio version very well done.

Britany | 921 comments Finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood by Margaret Atwood-- 3 Stars

Interesting concept, just didn't reach that level where I connected with these characters, and didn't particularly care for the vague ending...

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments How can you read so many books so quickly? I read fast but you're incredible! Plus, you always review - I just put it off and do a bunch at once. Your way is better! ☺️

message 1036: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Lela,
I usually read around 2 books week depending on the length unless I end up having more time . I'm retired but am busy pretty much every day helping my mother , taking her to appointments etc , helping our with grandkids , so most of my reading is in the evening and late at night .
If I had more time , I would definitely read more !

message 1037: by Angela M (last edited Oct 14, 2014 03:47PM) (new)

Angela M Lela ,
I almost always read one book at a time . The exception is going on now because of the group read of Ulysses and we are reading it one episode a week . If not for that , I can only focus on one at a time , especially if I am really liking it . I write my review right after I finish reading usually before I start another book .

message 1038: by Britany (new)

Britany | 921 comments Finished All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr by Anthony Doerr-- 4 Strong Stars!!

WWII, Museum locksmith, Two souls connected, Jules Verne all come together to craft a brilliantly written novel that exudes magic.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 1039: by Lela (new)

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments Thanks. Angela. I usually read one at a time ,but, just lately, I've been doing several at once. It's confusing, though. I just had to have a break from one of them and I can only read the other during the day - it's scary & that's not my kind of book! I made a mistake and put my name down to win. They will give up on getting a review at the rate I'm going!

It's worth reading but I didn't like it as much as other Amy Tan's books. However; it had a great historical facts and it was an interesting read.
