Loved the beginning- was swept away with the Literary Apothecary and wishing that this really existed. Second half was way too slow and drawn out.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I have the audio downloaded from the library, ready to listen hoping not to be disappointed...

Oh no, it's nothing bad at all. I think I just got burned out on him; and some of his other work I was not a huge fan of, like his Gideon books. I enjoyed his other stuff that was more focused on women, like The Other Woman, Genevieve, etc. But so far, this book is nice.
However, I will say that there is a first generation African-American woman with Nigerian ancestry in the book named Indigo, and she kind of craps on those who are African American and not fully African. THAT pisses me off, but I am only on chapter 4, so I will keep going.

Really fell in love with this author when I read Sarah's Key but haven't found another book by her that I've loved. This narrator is MVP for this book, which I listened on audio, otherwise, disappointed in the lackluster second half.

I felt the same! I started listening to The Martian, and quickly thought to myself "I think I am too stupid for this book.."
My coworkers, who are much brainier than myself, loved it. But I think I will have to stick with more traditional scifi.. With aliens and "science" that is more akin to "magic."
