I'm going to have to pass on that one. My library doesn't have it.

It looks SO good but my library doesn't have it. Depending on where my book budget is at the end of the month, I may be able to find a used copy for your buddy read.

Amanda | 257 comments I see that Helen Oyeyemi (of Boy, Snow, Bird; and Gingerbread fame) has written the introduction. Count me in.

Amanda

I landed a new project so I splurged and bought a new copy of Thus Were Their Faces from Book Depository. Let me know when in June you'd like to start this buddy read.

Yay! So when would you all like to start? Beginning of June is good for me, but if you two want to start earlier thatscokay with me!
Congratulations Leah!

Amanda | 257 comments I can start Saturday earliest (when I’ll have the book)

Leah (flying_monkeys) | 1009 comments @Amanda and @Jalilah - thank you! Now I can pay bills for another 2 months. The life of a freelancer :-)

I just ordered my copy so it'll probably be at least May 28-ish before I can start. Jalilah, are you going to set up the thread for us?

Sure I'll start up the thread! Because it was nomination for the current South American group read, I'll put it in that folder! Hey! I just realized ths book will count for the 2019 challenge as a book that did not win!

the thread for Thus Were Their Faces is now in the South American Group Read folder! I will probably start in June unless Mouthful of Birds is too horror for me, in which case I'll start sooner.
Both books are Argentinian writers and described as strange and creepy!

Would anyone like to read Conjure Women by Afia Atakora with me?
It could be any time after 2 weeks!

I put a hold on it at the library, but it estimates it will be 18 weeks before it's my turn.

18 weeks? Oh my! My hold just has one ahead of me and I was disapointed with the winners so want to continue. I will start before and if anyone else wants to join in I can still start a thread for it.
Are there any other books that didn't win that you'd be interested in?

I have 4 weeks left on my hold of Black Girl Unlimited, which was the book I nominated. I have no idea if you'll like it or not!

I'm always willing to give a book that looks interesting a try! And my library has it. So should I order with a pause until next month?

Andy and I are doing a buddy read of Atalanta by Jennifer Saint. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Unfortunately, it's not out until May 9th. If any Netgalley users want to join in, here's the link to the book: https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...

Otherwise, people are welcome to join in at any time!
