I've been thinking about this. One of the things I love about romance is seeing the characters express love for each other. I find it less satisfying when I don't see love between the couple, even if they might say 'I love you' at the end. Of course I want the words too, but I feel that love means nothing if it's not shown.

What are some ways that the hero shows love for his heroine that you appreciate? When do you feel mostly unconvinced about the love between the couple in books.

In Pamela Clare's Breaking Point the hero orders the heroine iced tea for her trip back to Colorado. It's been a while since I read it so my details may be iffy but that one scene stayed with me. Anyway, during one of their conversations, the heroine had mentioned how much she loved iced tea and he remembered. ☺

Rachel Annie (snapdragoness) Showing her respect is the biggie for me. And appreciating her for her mind and personality more than (or at the least in addition to) her looks.

I don't get the books where the H is a total jerk to the h 24/7, and she just swoons.

Rachel Annie (snapdragoness) The first gesture that popped into my head was in the end of Veil of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #5) by Lara Adrian when the H surprises her with a huge feast. It was important to her because she and a young girl had been held captive for a long time, and had to eat the same thing every day.

Oh those are what I'm talking about, Pamela and Rachel. You might be tempted to write off something like that and say it's no big deal, but in the context of the story, that really shows caring, consideration and love. Sometimes I feel that authors think we just want to read love scenes to see the love, but love is expressed in so many different ways, big and small.

What are some of the best 'I love you' scenes you have read?
