I'm pretty sure it's a season-to-season kind of thing. The show hasn't matched the books for some time, but as long as people watch, they'll make the show. Or until a main character decides to leave for something else.

Well,ana paquin and Stephen moyer just had twins and are married,thats why the season was cut down by 2 episodes.So I guess well have to wait and see!

If Erik is gone the show will change drastically

There is defo going to be another season next year it's been in the paper but that's all they ever say. They never say it will carry on for how ever many seasons they see how the ratings go and until they drop drastically they will keep making them.

If Eric meets the true death, I probably won't watch it. He is one of the best characters and often the storylines that involve him are the strongest in the show. I actually got emotional watching this season when Nora died. The fact that he is sexy as hell doesn't hurt :)
