Also, forgive the use of "Today" at the start of the article. It was "Today" when I wrote it, but apparently that wasn't edited out.

No true gamer would buy a Wii U over a PS3 or XBox 360, let alone the next generation.
The Wii U will sell a lot of units but, like the Wii, the number of games sold per unit will be significantly lower than the other 2.

Microsoft has made more positive changes than negative since the Xbox One reveal. It is sad they won't have a worldwide release but they have managed to hit all the major markets. The others won't be that far behind. Early adopters are important but over the life of the console they are a very small percent of total sales.

At the end of the day it is going to come down to games available which will decide the console most people buy.

There is room in gaming for both PS4 and XBox One to be hugely successful.

Jonathan | 185 comments They managed to hit all major markets? Only two countries in Latin America (Mexico and Brazil) are getting the console at launch. Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia all overlooked. None of Asia, Indonesia or the Middle East will have it available at launch, not even the biggest markets in those areas at all (Japan, South Korea, and India to name a few). For Europe, there are a lot of Eastern European countries that are major Xbox countries that will have to import the console at launch if they want it because their market won't receive it until further into 2014. Xbox One won't truly be world wide until at least a year after it's initial launch.

I did note that people could import it into their country without having to worry about getting something that won't work in their country. But that also adds on a lot of other costs to the list. There's international shipping & handling, sales tax (if you're in a country with a sales tax), and if you aren't going to be doing the digital purchases and want to get more than just the game in a bundle, if you get a bundle, you'll also have to import the game(s), because they probably won't be physically sold in your country until the console launches in your country. Meaning the additional costs to something that's already $500 could end up being closer to or possibly over $600 (if you don't get a bundle that comes with a game) with the games themselves likely being closer to $70-80 per (if you don't buy digitally or special editions). And if you play online, you'll need Xbox Live Gold, which means if you're not getting a bundle and don't have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, that's another $50.

Note, I didn't once say that the Xbox One has no chance or that Wii U will win by virtue of being first to market. It's just the fact that there is just a lot that still stands in the way of Xbox One and part of it is self-imposed road blocks even after taking steps in the right direction.

Jonathan | 185 comments Also, true gamer? A true gamer is just someone who games. It doesn't matter whether it's casual or core and each company has its own core as well.
