Terminalcoffee discussion

My neighborhood has a score of 3. It's a shame. I love walking, but I'm hemmed in on all sides by busy, twisty roads that cars speed down and there's no shoulder, just hills, so you can't walk anywhere but on the road. Besides, it's kind of mountainous and I'm not a huge fan of going up steep inclines :P

I'm moving to Bryn Mawr, PA this fall though, and that has a score of 94. It will be a good change.

I walk everywhere! I love walking, just not in the Summer because I burn ugly. Other than that, I LOVE taking walks at night. I walk to the corner store, to Wal-Mart for groceries, to the library, and after school, I walk home from the bus stop. Walks are amazing. They help me relax and filter my thoughts.

Right, the walkscore is based on how easy it is to get your errands done by walking - not get your exercise by walking. An isolated mountain cabin might have a score of 2 because there aren't any stores nearby, but the walks there might be outstanding.

My score is a 31, which is "Car dependent." My closest options are a restaurant I can't afford,a jewelry store I can't afford and a coffee place.

Well, at least you can have coffee while window shopping jewelry.

We got a 68. I think it should be a little higher, but I can live with it. I can walk to groceries, bars, banks, theatres, coffee shops, bookstores, schools, libraries.

I'm from TN, so there aren't too many places within walking distance. I have to drive the 37 miles to work, but I walk my dog daily and I'll walk the 3 miles to the library and the 4 miles to the frozen yogurt shop :).

Just walked around my office building 3 times (about the equivalent of walking 6 or so blocks, I guess). The exercise was nice, but it's so freaking hot, I really should have thought it through before doing it in my nice office clothes.

I love the website, Bun. My neighborhood gets a 51, but there are no sidewalks on the street in front of my house, and the residential ones suck. I hate to admit it, but I drive my dog to a park for walks.

My dog rarely gets to parks. Dogs are not allowed in any of the Washington city parks so he can only play in the St. George parks, the closest of which is five miles away. The nearest dog park (until two years ago we didn't have any at all) is about seven miles.

I almost built a home in Washington City. Shortly before we were to start, one of the neighbors in the development built what was basically a bus garage for his giganto RV. It didn't fit with the rules of the plan at all. But somehow he got it approved. So ugly. We decided right then to sell the lot and go somewhere else. Fortunately, the value of the lot had doubled since we bought it.

Spending some more time walking around the office building today. It's 103 degrees here today, and super humid. Ugh.

Heading out to walk Charley now. We'll probably play with the hose in the dog run. Hot day.

i live in the country. when i walk it is on county roads where there is not much traffic. i can walk a mile and only one car maybe goes past me. i walk my dog and listen to my ipod strolling down through fields of corn and beans. it is wonderful on a crisp fall or winter day

I like that kind of walking, too.

I got an 85, Very Walkable.
I'm very close to downtown Olympia, and within ten minutes walking to the library, lots of stores and restaurants, and fifteen minutes from a couple of (expensive) grocery stores. Which is one reason why I don't shop at them.

In the other direction, there's lovely neighborhood, with lots of trees and craftsman houses and sidewalks and plenty of hills. Lobstergirl would like it here. :)

I try and walk my younger 2 children to school and then I take a longer route home. I find it a good chance to disappear inside my head and sometimes find inspiration when I'm stuck in my writing.

I just checked my walk score and happily it is 100. I walk to work everyday and since I don't own a car its a good thing I can get my errands done by walking!

Lol...it is pretty nice. I grew up in a suburban area where it was a requirement that you own a car. Very different from my current experience. Of course there are downsides, but I really love being able to walk everywhere.

closest groceries - 3.4 miles - farm stand (seasonal)

I got "car dependent" on that thingabob, yet everything is close except books, bars, and entertainment.

Hard to know. Those might be disused telegraph wires from the Old West.

Oh good god. Yesterday we drove by Riche Bros auctioneers and I actually thought, as we passed by the giant diesel flatbed pickup Dodge 250s, "that would be good for us to have."

A truck could be a good second ride for a lot of reasons, but with the baby, maybe you still would want to have a car. I guess it depends on your lifestyle.

We bought a 4-Runner a few weeks ago.
