Susan | 6406 comments Not really. Right? Your neighbor does not really have a crossbow.

message 402: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Why is that so hard to believe?

message 403: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I suppose you have a neighbor with a crossbow, as well.

Phil's neighbor with the crossbow killed his child with the crossbow.

message 405: by Susan (last edited Jan 12, 2013 08:50PM) (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Whose child?

message 406: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24779 comments Mod
The neighbor accidentally killed his own offspring.

Here's one comment referring to it. There may be an earlier one, I'm not sure.

Have Phil tell you about the polygamist wives at Costco.

Susan | 6406 comments It's not my list. It is just a list.

message 415: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments I walk about 1.5 miles a day when I'm at school.

message 417: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like walking.

I'm occasionally useful.

message 420: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't even have to think about it.

message 421: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments And that picture of the FLDS women is creepy, so I was trying to get away from that.

message 422: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Two birds, Laurin. There is still hope for our youth.

Braggart.

message 424: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) They are a common sight where Phil lives. They have to look like that, while the men and boys look like regular people. It's really fucked.

Susan | 6406 comments Félix wrote: "They are a common sight where Phil lives. They have to look like that, while the men and boys look like regular people. It's really fucked."

Unbelievably so.

The men should have to wear those hairdos.

message 433: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Their hair is like that because they aren't allowed to cut it.

message 434: by Susan (new)

A woman isn’t allowed to cut her own hair without her husband’s permission.

It is illegal in Harper Woods to paint sparrows and sell them as parakeets.

Susan | 6406 comments Uh oh, Mr. D. Detroit Law:

It is illegal for a man to scowl at his wife on Sunday.

Phil | 11837 comments Lobstergirl wrote: "Have Phil tell you about the polygamist wives at Costco."

They're at WalMart, too, but I don't go there.

Susan | 6406 comments ::patiently waits for stories::

message 440: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Nothing much to tell. It's usually a group of about six women, all dressed and coiffed as in the pictures above. Occasionally there is a man or boy with them. The women tend to keep to themselves, though they do respond when I say, "hi."

At Costco, they'll load up one of the large, orange flatbed carts with groceries and sundries, always staying in a group. The goods get packed into large 15 passenger vans (once in a while it's a regular mini-van) and off they go.

By the way, the men do stand out somewhat. I believe they are required to wear the old style, full-length garments (underwear), extending to ankles and wrists. To cover those, they wear jeans and long sleeved button-up shirts, even when it's 110 degrees in the summer.

message 441: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Huh.

message 442: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24779 comments Mod
Oh, I read that as 15 separate vans. That would be something.

I did too the first time that I read it.

These families make me sad. As an outsider I try not to judge, but it's impossible to feel good about the lives the women and children are having.

I agree. It can't be a very fulfilling life. What if these women and children have things they aspire to, like a profession, but it's not allowed. I would hate to live like that.

message 446: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments The men have several wives ? I would not like to share my man.

message 447: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) These women are not often asked what they would like.

Cesspools of backwardness are everywhere even as we seemingly progress as a world. Another gang rape after a bus ride in Punjab, India today.

message 450: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Yes, it is everywhere, every day. I hate the evil that can grow in some hearts.
