DHASG July Challenge

Introduction: When July comes around, we're in the thick of summer. It's the seventh month of the year. Many folks are on vacation or are enjoying hot summer days at the beach, park, or in the backyard (or if you're like me, inside under some nice air conditioning). The kids are out of school and parents are finding ways to keep them occupied. Us readers are still reading like crazy! (even more if we don't like hot weather and we want don't to be outside). It's exciting to see what books we will enjoy and include in our seventh monthly challenge on the Dangerous Hero Addict Support Group!

Instructions:

1. Books must be read between July 1st and July 31st of the month.
2. Please post on this thread that you are signing up and update your stats as you finish. Let the moderator know when you are completed in your final post.
3. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
4. Books of any genre can be used for the challenge, unless a particular part of the challenge states otherwise.
5. Best of all, enjoy the month of July and all the good books you get to read this month! Enjoy the July heat (or air conditioning if you prefer).

Levels:
1. 98 Degrees in the Shade: Read 8-10 books
2. Let the fireworks begin!: Read 5-7 books
3. Give me a cold drink!: Read 3-4 books

1. Independence Day: July 4th is the day that we celebrate our independence from British rule in the United States. There are several other countries who celebrate an independence day this month as well. Read a book about independence or breaking free, either figuratively or literally. You could also read a book that has 'free' in the title. Alternatively, read a book with four letters in the title, four words, or the author's name has four words (first, middle or last).
2.Dog Days!: The dog days of summer begin in July, when the hottest days of the years begin. Read a book that brings to mind hot weather, in any way you want. It can be a very steamy romantic book, it can have a hot setting, it can have a cover that reminds you of fire or heat, or even a hero/heroine who is 'hot' or perhaps starts/puts out, or manifests fire. You can also read a book that has a dog character featured (a character owns a dog or works with dogs).
3.Summer School: Some folks have to go to summer school. Let's commiserate with them by reading a book that features students of any kind, or a teacher/professor or character in a school setting of any kind. You could also read a children's, young adult, or middle-grade/juvenile book.
4.Ruby Red: The ruby is the July birthstone. It is found in either red or darker pink shades. It is highly prized in Asian cultures (used as an ornament for armor or weapons). Rubies have been found in Montana, North and South Carolina, and Wyoming. Read a book that exhibits characteristics of a ruby, either the book has red or darker pink in the cover, a character is a redhead, named Ruby, has an Asian location , theme, or character(s), or set in any of the above US states.
5.Beautiful but Deadly: The Delphinium or Larkspur flower is a birth flower for July. Larkspurs are flowers that are very toxic, although they have attractive blooms (cause cardiac and neurological damage that leads to death). Read a book in which a character is very physically attractive, but also deadly, lethal or not to be trusted because they will betray the unwary.
6. Vacation Time: July is a major time for taking vacations. Read a book about a character who goes on vacation, travels or takes a trip or any kind. If the book has a cover that evokes a vacation setting, you can count that as well.
7.A Summer Treat: It's hot out there, and the days are long. Enjoy any book you want this month as a treat for you to get through these long, hot days!
8. Moody Blues: Cancer is one of the Zodiac signs for July. Cancers are known for their changeable natures. They can be moody and touchy, but they also emotional and loving. Cancers can tend to be clingy, intuitive, imaginative, protective, cautious and shrewd. Read a book with a hero or heroine who exhibits any of these traits.
9. Let the Lion Roar: The other birth sign for July is Leo. Leos are known for their leadership traits, but have the reputation for being bossy. They love getting attention, and are creative, generous, demonstrative, but also faithful and loving. Read a book with a main character with any of these traits. You could also read a book with a main character who is a celebrity or in the limelight, or a paranormal book with a cat-shifter, namely a lion shifter, or read a book with a bonafide lion!
10. Seven Up!: July is the seventh month of the year. Read a book that has seven letters in it, or even a book by an author whose name adds up to seven letters. If you can find a book where a character is the seventh child or part of a family of seven children, you could read that too. If the character is part of a group of seven, it would count. Of course a seventh book in a series is eligible. If there's another way you can represent seven with a book for this challenge, it counts here.

Hope you enjoy the challenge and have a good reading month in July!

My original level was "98 degrees in the sun" but at the pace I'm currently going, I'll definitely have to rethink that. The book I just finished had 448 pages, and the one I just started has 524!

7.A Summer Treat: (It's hot out there, and the days are long. Enjoy any book you want this month as a treat for you to get through these long, hot days!) A Needful Heart by J.M. Madden == 07/16

9. Let the Lion Roar: (The other birth sign for July is Leo. Leos are known for their leadership traits, but have the reputation for being bossy. They love getting attention, and are creative, generous, demonstrative, but also faithful and loving. Read a book with a main character with any of these traits.) Sins of the Father by Jaid Black == 07/13

10. Seven Up!: (July is the seventh month of the year. Read a book that has seven letters in it.) If I Fall by Kate Noble == 07/06

If I Fall (The Blue Raven, #4) by Kate Noble High Octane by Lisa Renee Jones Breathless Descent (Harlequin Blaze, #614) by Lisa Renee Jones Sins of the Father by Jaid Black Last Call by Olivia Brynn A Needful Heart by J.M. Madden
