I'm 3 chapters.
So far I'm really liking Parker's voice and I'm really liking her BFF Kat!

I'm super curious about this journal!

Michelle (shadowrose) I loved the whole concept of writing a journal for your future self. I think that would have been a really cool project to have my senior year.

Me too! As soon as I read that I was thinking that I wish I could have done that in school! Of course, I would have needed someone to mail it to me, because if it would have been my job to keep up with it, it would have failed! ;)

Any teens in here should suggest this to their English teachers! ;)

I feel the same way. I would have LOVED to do that. One of my teachers had us write a letter to read five years in the future, but that's different. I wonder if Jessi Kirby had an assignment like the journal when she was in high school. I'd love to know the inspiration behind it.

Yes! I would too! If you all want to leave some questions that you might have for Jessi while you read I'll see if I can't send them to her in an interview format and then I'll read them during the live chat!!

I just emailed Jessi to see if she will have time to work something like this in for us this month. Will let you all know :D

Jessi said she would be happy to answer questions, so if you all have any questions while reading, like Lisa's " I wonder if Jessi Kirby had an assignment like the journal when she was in high school. I'd love to know the inspiration behind it. " or anything. Just leave them in the discuss threads as we go and I will send them all to her before our chat at the end of the month!

I want to know for everyone else, do you think you would have read the journal?

Michelle (shadowrose) That's really awesome! Thanks for checking with her Angela!

I think I would have read it...I can still remember most of the stuff that I did or thought during school and I don't think anything would be too painful. There maybe some cringe worthy crap, but I would definitely have read it. I've changed since 2008, so I'm positive I would be different in 2018.

oh, I most definitely would have read my journal!! Would you have read the dead girls journal?

Michelle (shadowrose) Yes...is it bad I didn't even hesitate? I mean I would have looked to see if there was someone to send it too, but then somewhere between the desk and the box it would probably end up in my bag. The town seems to idolize the girl so it's only natural to be curious about what she was truly like.

Lindsay Church (lindsaychurch) We need to pick a really boring book next month because I accidentally read almost this whole book today!!!!!!

I love this assignment too and wish my hs teacher had done it. Luckily I always kept (still do) a journal growing up so I have a bunch of notebooks full of angsty teenage stuff lying around somewhere haha.

I would have read that journal in a heartbeat. I'd be too curious.

I'm really liking this so far. Kat's pretty funny. And trever Collins is interesting. She's so socially awkward around him lol

I can't figure it out yet, but I'm excited to read more of her journal entries.

Does anyone else hate her mom? Haha she's so annoying and can't tell that her daughter is unhappy. But at the same time I get that she just wants the best for her kid.

I like that there's two story lines. The MC and her scholarship and life. And the mystery of the journal and this deeper question of self introspection (idk if that's a word but it sounds good)

Michelle (shadowrose) I hated her mom too...parents like that frustrate me to no end.

I don't hate her mom, but it's annoying. Too much pressure is not a good thing, but I can see a parent wanting better for their kid and not knowing how else to achieve that.

I haven't read that one, but I've heard I need to! It's on my shelf.

Lindsay Church (lindsaychurch) Yeah I love the double story line. And I love Trevor Collins! Her mom bugs me but I think also Parker has never said no so partly her mom may just not think Parker minds?

Yep! I would've read it in a heartbeat. I'm like Michelle, does that make me a bad person? It's just too juicy not to read. I'm super curious about the journal and everything it has to reveal.

Kristin A (kljaragon) | 21 comments Angela (Reading Angels) wrote: "Any speculations on what happened to Julianna and Shane?"

I have too many speculations, so I'll go with, no not really. Hehe. My mind is super suspicious of everyone and everything.

Kristin A (kljaragon) | 21 comments Lindsay wrote: "We need to pick a really boring book next month because I accidentally read almost this whole book today!!!!!!"

Lindsay, this is the first time I've participated in a book club and not read the whole book in the first week. I would have, but I've been too busy. LOL. So don't feel bad.

Can't stand her mom. Not one itsy-bitsy bit. She's driving me insane. I'm hoping Parker finds the strength to eventually stand up to her.

And I agree, the two storylines are really interesting. I'll be interested to see how they weave together in the end, assuming they do.
