Dorothy Smith | 7 comments I would like to proof your finished novels before you publish. I am an avid reader and it makes me CRAZY to see spelling errors, omitted words, run-on sentences, etc, when all I want to do is get lost in the story!! If you will provide the book, I will do my best to make sure that you publish an error-free work. And the best part: I'll do it at no charge!!! I read a variety of genres but I'm not really into SciFi or fantasy. If you think you might be interested, send me a message and tell me what the sub-genre is and we'll see if we are a good match.

Sarah I am trying to break into freelance proofreading, so I would like to volunteer as a proofreader to obtain some experience.

If you are interested, please do not hesitate to PM me. I would appreciate if you included a synopsis and word count of your book, and we can start with a chapter or two. Because I am willing to proofread for free, I want to make sure I enjoy reading and working with your book before committing to the entire manuscript. I especially love NA sports romance, along the lines of books by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen.

For the past year, I have turned that into the most rewarding and exciting "job" ever - I work as a personal assistant to authors. I have been given many books to beta read and I can do that. However, my strength lies in proofreading. I absolutely love proofreading novels. If interested, send me a message via Goodreads or my Facebook page.

Fatimah, how do I get in touch with you?

message 22: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherinbooks) | 64 comments Hi! Heather here. Avid reader and perfectionist extraordinaire with OCD tendencies. Ready to use my crazy to help your book become the best it can be!

I've recently decided that I'd like to become a freelance editor and proofreader in my spare time. I spend it all reading anyway so I think I'd like to try to turn that into something profitable. I'm always finding errors and fixing books in my head as I read so I might as well put all that mental energy to good use! My full-time job is as a content manager and quality assurance specialist for an online marketplace, so writing, proofreading, editing, and perfecting is my specialty! Combine that with my obsessive reading hobby, and I'm the perfect book editor. :-)

I'd love the opportunity to test out my skills if there's an author looking for some help. I'm open to editing/proofreading up to 5 chapters for free. After that, if you like what I've done, we can talk rates for the rest of the book. Or, if your book hooks me enough, I may even edit the rest for free. At least for the first book or two that comes my way while I'm getting my feet wet with this whole endeavor.

If you're interested, please email me at [email protected]. I look forward to working with some of the talented writers on this site!

message 24: by Karlie (new)

Karlie | 1 comments Good tidings,

I am currently editing for several satisfied customers as well as writing my own fiction. Call me a glutton, but I enjoy the editing process.

I aim to provide an affordable and quality service. I am currently working my way into full-time self-employment in my home office and so have a flexible schedule to take on new authors. I know the sword and sorcery genre tend to encourage long word counts, and I am open to allowing for partial payments via PayPal invoicing to break up the cost of hiring an editor for a long novel.

My current rate is from $0.003 to $0.004 per word (depending on the extent of editing required), which adds up to $30-$40 per 10,000 words. This rate will only hold until my schedule fills. I provide a free sample of 2,000 words to make sure that we will be a good fit and to evaluate the level of editing which will be necessary.

I have edited everything from 180,000 word epic fantasy to 3,000 word erotic short stories and personally read anything from Jane Austin to Aleron Kong. All genres and tropes are welcome.

Direct message me with any inquiries.

Thank you, and happy writing,
Karlie
