Sounds like an amazing author who will be missed.
Deric's first book was called Diana's story and told of his first wife's fight against ME and his life as her carer. Despite the solemnity of the subject it was also extremely funny.
He was one of England's treasures. Suggest you Google him to learn more.
I shall really miss him for though I never met him I feel like he was family. I felt a real empathy with him as I have spent most of my life as a carer, first looking after my mum then my dad and two aunts.
Deric was an easy to read author, warm and humorous. He could make you laugh at the most mundane things and his cat stories were masterpieces.

You won't regret it. Any of his books are worth reading. He was a great guy.
Two of his books were made into one off TV programmes over here. I know Lost for words (the story of his mothers last years) is on DVD. Whether it is available in a NZ compatible format I don't know. It won numerous awards in many countries including the USA.
And I know The Cat Who Came in From the Cold was brought out in large print.

I heard of that book but have never read it. Sad when someone passes away. I lost my mom last year.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Time eases the hurt but it never goes away.... that's me speaking from experience of the worst kind.
If you should decide to read the Cat Who Came in From the Cold make sure it's DERIC LONGDEN's book and not
the one of the same title by Jeffery Mousaieff Masson (not to say it's not a good book, but it's totally different to Deric's book).

He was the author of the wonderful cat story The Cat Who Came in From the Cold, a warm, humorous tale about how he and his wife, author Aileen Armitage, came to own Thermal. This was followed by other light-hearted stories about Thermal and the other cats who came to live in his home opposite Greenhead Park in Huddersfield.
I know I won't be alone in my sadness at Deric's passing. His books could always cheer me up. He was a very down to earth and generous man.

His books were truly Good reads!
