I know exactly what you mean! The girls are always so dependent on guys in books and it is very infuriating. I'm sorry, I can't even think of a book without a damsel in distress, but I'm trying to find one. There's always some hot guy that the heroine falls in love with and I'm so tired of it. That and love triangles.

Ugh, that is so accurate! I will definitely let you know. It's the worst when you love the book so much and then they introduce romance and it just becomes typical bull. Actually, have you read the Scorpio Races? Because it's a really good book (albeit kind of weird, but what good book isn't?) and there's only a teeny tiny bit of romance, but it's not, like, typical romance and it's written really well. So, if you're interested, you can try to read that! :) (you have to be accepting of weird concepts though)

It's just a single book, but the way it ends you wish it was a series :D

Agreed!
Oh and check out the Raven Boys by the same author the girl in it is quite independent.
Also, in the Maximum ride books Max (female lead) is quite kick butt and self-dependent.
I actually have the Raven Boys right now; I checked it out from the library the other day! But I have a bunch to read before it. I read the first Maximum Ride but never ended up getting a hold of the rest of the series. I'm reading the Timeriders right now and I love it :D
What is everyone else reading right now?

It's pretty different.
And I am struggling though Pathfinder
Struggling through books is the worst. Especially when they're good books that tons of people like and you really want to like it... And then you don't

Agreed!

I have read the maximum rude series and it was AMAZING!!! I loved it although it seemed kinda slow in the middle books..... But I still loved it!!
And I am reading an awesome series called the violet eden chapters.... but the last two books haven't come out yet ahhhhhh

Yeah, see it's by the same dude who wrote Ender's Game, which I really liked, and this book is supposed to be good. I want to like it but it's not happening, and the reading is going super slow.

Agreed!

Have you read the final book? It came out a few months ago.
OMG DJAPICHEASDFGHJKL I just finished a book WITHOUT a damsel in distress. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. It's about a vampire, but it's so good. I don't really usually like vampire books but I loved it and there's romance but the girl saves the guy's butt a zillion times. So, if you don't mind vampires, (even if you hate them you should try this book) then you should read it :D

The Immortal Rules is a series and I'm pretty sure the Raven Boys is too but there's only one so far
I lied! There's two books - so far - in the Raven Cycle. I'm just about done the 1st

The second one is out!?!?
Sorry, apparently not! I just saw that it had ratings on it and - inanely - assumed that it was out, but I looked deeper into it and apparently it's supposed to come out Fall sometime?

That's what I was thinking but then I got excited thinking I had misread the dates. It's alright though :)
I'm pretty sure there's gonna be more books - the second one's out but I haven't read it yet
That's actually on my to-read list! I just have to pick it up at the library. I'm excited to read it!

The Raven Boys(I am currently obsessed with this one),
The Scorpio Races,
Gathering Blue(no romance),
Anything by Tamora Pierce,
His Dark Materials series,(Lyra's younger, but it's still good.)
My Sister's Keeper (no boys to save),
The Running Dream,
Numbers.
The Fault in Our Stars is also really (really really really) great.

Tesoro: Secrets of the Hidden Treasure (Volume 1) by Andrea Hintz
What would you do if your wild, thrill-seeking cousin who is known for deceiving you into going on disastrous road trips and “disadventures” asked you for a ride? Daphne Bleau (that’s right, like the color) is not the kind to be tricked easily. She’s conservative, boring, and has a tremendous fear of trying anything new and exciting. She’s also brilliant, but her consideration and concern for her mischievous cousin causes her to fall for another one of her cousin’s antics. But this time, her cousin is caught up in something different . . . The Tesoro project is one that requires solving difficult riddles and puzzles in order to track down artifacts left behind by a dangerous pirate group known as Tesoro who lived back in the late 1600s. What starts off as more of a leisure activity ultimately takes over and seems to permanently captivate whoever joins in on the search, making the people involved take extreme measures to stay ahead of each other. The clues start off simple, and gradually become more dangerous. By the end, their lives are at stake. To make matters more complicated, Daphne and her teammates have run into an uncle who has been almost completely absent for the past fifteen years. Her family has been secretive of the reasoning behind his whereabouts. The story begins in the beautiful Hamptons and unexpectedly transitions to Rome, Italy. Throughout, there are flashbacks focusing on the story of Johnny Higgins; a rebellious, teenaged pirate who has been trapped in the Tesoro crew for years. His attempts to escape have failed him, and he feels as though he is living in a world not his own.
