Should we ask goodreads to add an "abandoned" option?

It's not often I don't finish a book, but sometimes, after postponing them because I'm bored and want to read something else, I look at where the bookmark is, and I know it'd be agonising to start reading again. I don't want the book to remain on my "Currently Reading" shelf forever, but I don't want to say I'm "finished" either. Does anyone else feel they need an "ABANDONED" option?

A needed category. All the points mentioned above are valid reasons why this shold be a shelf. It's not always a bad thing to abandon a book and it would be helpful to know how far into the book someone got and why it was shucked at that moment.

I'm curious why this is in the Gould's discussions. I found that book un-unfinishable.

Yes. Most definitely. Some books are just not worth the paper they're printed on!

Definitely. (Actually, I added my own "stalled" shelf which is basically for "abandoned, but I reserve the right to revisit in the future")

What really tortures me though is whether I should give a rating to such books: I'd like to, but it doesn't really seem fair if I've not read it all. On the other hand, I'm never likely to get any one-star reviews in otherwise.

FWIW the one thing a writer hates to see most in review is "DNF" "Did Not Finish" however it is one of the most powerful statements you as a reader can make. Personally I would like to see some indication of how far into the book you got before you quit.

Interesting that this link is Gould's Book of Fish. This ended up on my "couldn't even finish it" shelf too! Terrible book! Sounds like an interesting premise and setting but the blurred line between reality and crazy-mind-wanderings left me thinking this book was way too clever and trendy for me and I'd just like a regular story.
