Chapters four through twelve

I'm enjoying this so far, but it reads more like a journal than a novel. I suppose that why they made a point of calling it a novel on the cover.

Harsh events at the beginning. Glad to see things starting to look up now (although, I don't expect them to continue).

The book needs more time indicators. It's hard to get a feel for how much time passes.

Life seems very stereotypical here. Was it really that way in the 60s or just in the book?

It was really that way in the 60s.
