Adam Moss Suicide: Mass Murderer Kills Self In Iowa Prison

FORT MADISON, Iowa -- An Iowa man serving several life sentences in the 2001 slayings of his girlfriend, her five children and a former employer committed suicide in his prison cell, corrections officials announced Thursday.

Adam Moss, 35, was found unresponsive and hanging with a bed sheet around his neck tied to a wall vent in his cell Wednesday afternoon at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections. He had been confined to a mental health unit.

Corrections spokesman Fred Scaletta said medical personnel immediately detached the bed sheet and determined Moss was dead, The Des Moines Register reported (http://dmreg.co/12omL2k).

The Lee County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was asphyxia due to suffocation. Scaletta said the death is under investigation.

Moss pleaded guilty in Sioux City in October 2001 to seven counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his girlfriend, Leticia Aguilar, 31, her five children, and businessman Ron Fish, 58, who he had worked for at some point. The children were between the ages of 6 and 12.

Police said Moss beat all seven to death with a hammer and slit Aguilar's throat. Police captured Moss a day after the bodies were discovered.

Moss was later sentenced to seven consecutive life terms with no chance of parole.

Iowa does not have the death penalty, and the newspaper reported that the killings renewed debate on whether to bring it back.

So sad. I mean the fact that he killed seven people. Not that he killed himself. Does that make me a terrible person? Guess I'll just have to live with it.

Navy Officer Charged with Battery at Disney World

A U.S. Navy ensign who graduated from the Naval Academy and played on the football team was arrested Saturday at Walt Disney World's Epcot Center for allegedly getting drunk, assaulting two park employees, and hitting a woman with a 3-foot plastic PVC pipe.

Ensign Austin DeVan Hill was charged with battery, aggravated battery, and felony battery. Hill is assigned to Training Air Wing 5 at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Fla. He was released from an Orange Country, Fla. jail Sunday morning.

A police report of the incident said Hill appeared to be drunk as he yelled and made incoherent statements during Epcot's annual International Food and Wine Festival, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

Hill punched two Disney World male workers in the head and struck a female with a PVC pipe after Hill entered a backstage office area, according to the Sentinel report.

Hill allegedly punched a man identified as Michael Connelly leaving him with a large gash on his forehead, according to the report. Next, Hill allegedly assaulted another man identified as Timothy Beltley in the face as Beltley tried to stop Hill from taking a cargo work cart, according to the Sentinel.

Later, Hill hit a woman identified as Jessica Brown on the left cheek and neck with the 3-foot plastic PVC pipe, according to the Sentinel. Disney security officials restrained Hill before Orange Country deputies arrested him. Hill was bleeding from the knees, wrists and hands when the deputies found him, the Sentinel reported.

Hill chose Navy Pilot for his service selection during his last semester at the Naval Academy, the college from which he graduated in 2012. He was listed as a long snapper on the Navy's football team's 2009 roster, according to NavySports.com.

Deanna (ravenhoodofravenwood) | 25 comments Human body parts are being found in Washington State on the Nisqually Indian Reservation, near Seattle. A man saw his dog hovering over a human leg that had turned gray. Later, a torso, pelvis, and portions of skull were found; this morning, an arm. All parts seem to belong to one body, though, age, nor sex have been determined.
