John Galt | 35 comments A worthwhile read. My favorite line: "In polls we trust."
Though it should read: In the liberal media we trust. What has been demonstrated by the DOMA rulings and the legalization of pot in a few states is the fantastic power of the liberal media.
If they want to make America believe something, we'll believe it, and the speed at which public opinion changes is astounding.

The fundamental problem right now is, we as a society have diminished religion, which for the most part has traditionally been the source of The Truth for most of the population and replaced it with nothing. So in the absence of any objective standard for right and wrong, people fall for the argument that is the loudest, or easiest to accept. Give Ayn Rand props for trying to come up with an atheistic version of The Truth, but for one reason or another it didn't take hold.

Since human beings are wired to place their faith in SOMETHING, disregard for religion makes many become zealots for a "cause": environmentalism, abortion, smoking bans, gay rights. Thus, anyone who disagrees is no longer an intellectual opponent, but a heretic to be destroyed.
