The Ersatz Elevator question

Jerome is nice but Esme is so sneaky. Esme and Olaf make a good couple as they are both evil I think they will get what's coming to them in the end - Karma strikes >:D

you'll always find a character like Jerome in every part of this story , they are innocent , good people and want to help Baudelaire's but they are always weak and can't stand in the face of evil
Esme is the bad girl in the story and also it is ordinary in every story one of the count Olaf's assistance

So I found the character of Jerome is worth for study

I think Jerome is a caring person, but I don't understand why he would fall for Esme. She is selfish and rude. I feel bad for Jerome of what if he wants a divorce? What will Esme think? But Jerome is cool.

Jerome was a complete coward and Esme was just plain cruel.
