Independence Day--Your Own.

Obviously, I think of our independence and the people who started it all (Paul Revere, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, etc) but I also think of the men and women who continue to fight for it, our armed forces. So many sacrifices to keep us free. But I'm sad at what the US is becoming.

@Pamela - I agree with you that the US has taken a turn of the worst as of late but I am sure that we have the strength and intelligence to get through it. We as a people just have to pull together and start using our brains for a change. :)
I know it's just a few that have ruined what I believe the US stands for. There are so many good, wonderful people that still exist here. I truly pray the good will prevail.
I think of the patriotic associations, but also I think of personal freedom as well. I cherish the fact that I am free to make decisions for my life and that with my faith, I have freedom emotionally and spiritually as well.

I'm not fond of the fireworks myself. I'd rather just watch them on TV and turn the volume down.
I love fireworks but unfortunately my dog doesn't. Poor thing shakes the whole night. She needs some doggy Prozac :(
But, in answer to the question, this holiday sparks a certain pride for me. We are a young country who gained their independence over 200 years ago. I do agree that freedom is not free and we should honor the men and women who serve this country. And I just had the most delicious ribs that my husband grilled. What is the 4th without a great cookout! Everyone have a great 4th of July!

But this day, I think for most, has changed over the years and maybe even over the few decades. For me I think about how amazing that day would have been had I lived to see it and I reflect on what's means to me now.
A day that I'm thankful for my freedoms that some many dreamed, gave, sacrificed and died and live with purpose, cause and belief that this country is great. Yet we are flawed but have the freedoms to make changes to redeem those flaws through strength and determination to be better because we have the right to so do through our constitution.
To be proud of those men and women who fight for the preservations of my right with no doubt in their minds to do so for me, my family and their country.
Just got a little deep, sorry but I love being an American through good and bad. I was made in the U.S.A I'm just built this way.
Fire works and BBQ is the cherry on the sundae.
Happy 4th of July! Hug a patriot! LOL

Weather in a office with fours walls made of sheet rock or four walls in a fox hole with walls made of mud.

My dog isn't fond of them either and whines. Poor thing. Luckily it's only twice a year we get a lot of fireworks around here. New Year's Day and The Fourth of July.

Of family and Fireworks. And this year especially it reminds me of my auntie who passed away a little over a month ago. She loved fireworks, my whole family would go to the Lakefront (I live in Milwaukee so the Lakefront is Lake Michigan for us)and watch the big fireworks display.
When the fireworks would go off she would watch them and tears would run down her face because she loved to watch them so much.
So every 4th of July for the rest of my life will be a beautiful way to remember my aunt because fireworks are synonymous with her.
This one's for you Auntie Suzie, I love you!
Teresa, cheers to your awesome aunt Suzie and your grandpa....I wish the same to my dad who served in the Korean War. God bless.
I actually love the fireworks probably the most out of any of the 4th festivities. I am a bit like a kid about them. It helps that I can watch them from my backyard. :)
What does Independence Day mean to you? What does this holiday bring to mind for you?
