David Estes (davidestesbooks) | -4 comments Have you read The Mortal Instruments? City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare That's a decent series. Or also Daughter of Smoke and Bone Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 64 comments I really enjoyed Wicked: Witch & Curse Wicked Witch & Curse (Wicked, #1-2) by Nancy Holder If you are into witches. If you are interested in psychics, the first book in the Clear Angel chronicles, Elements of a Broken Mind Elements of a Broken Mind (Book 1 in the Clear Angel Chronicles) by Heidi Angell just came out in June.

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 64 comments Nope, hadn't even heard of it. Off to look it up now, though! I do have a thing for angels!!

message 4: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | -4 comments Angelfall was pretty good, it's a combo paranormal and dystopian :)

message 5: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Olsen | 6 comments If you're into shorter novels, sweep by Cate Tiernan, or a series starting with hawksong, by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 26 comments Ooh, I love Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series -- it's basically about magic and the hero is a lion shifter...yum! Other shifters and paranormal beings appear, but are usually secondary characters.

The first book is Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

Gabby | 906 comments Hmmm, some I liked and some were okay, but everyone has different opinions, so you should give them a go :)

I'll second David's recommendation of City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare . Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia was also pretty good, haven't read the rest though. I LOVED Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead and, yes, it's about vampires, but seriously, every vampire book out there is NOTHING compared to this awesomeness!! Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick has no vampires or werewolves in it. The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer <--- Awesome, seriously awesome, enough said :) Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) by Jessica Spotswood has witches in it, and a female main character. And Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass are pretty good, too :)

I was wondering if anyone could give me a recommendation of a book series to read, with a paranormal theme, preferably with a female protagonist (that doesn't feature werewolves or vampires..."

I think you would like Thirst No. 1 The Last Vampire, Black Blood, and Red Dice (Thirst, #1) by Christopher Pike It's nothing like "Twilight", also I know will probably like "Vampire Academy" series too! Happy Reading! :) Let me know what you think after you read either of them :)

message 9: by Leah (new)

Leah | 4 comments I know the series is pretty old but the mediator series by Meg Cabot is good

message 10: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (goodreadscomdeborah_jay) | 6 comments I'd recommend Richelle Mead's Succubus series. There are vampires but not as main characters.

message 11: by Bryan (new)

Bryan James (brief12h) | 2 comments Reading The Dead (The Sarah Milton Chronicles, #1) by J.B. Cameron I've only read the sample and full disclosure I've friended the author J.B. Cameron on Goodreads but it was good. He's also having a giveaway to reviewers which is how I found out about this group.

message 12: by Bridget (new)

Bridget IF you're wanting something not YA A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness is excellent. If you're wanting something YA, Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout or Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate I would recommend. Or City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare or Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

message 13: by Marylene (new)

Marylene | 44 comments I really liked Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . It's only a trilogy, but it was a really good book. I haven't read the other 2 yet, but I've only heard good things. The other series that is pretty cool is The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. That's a bit more adult and intense, but they are really good. I've read half of them and like them all so far.

message 14: by Cara (new)

Cara Speicher | 1 comments I'm just like you, love paranormal but not so much vampires and werewolves... Mortal Instuments is my absolute favorite, if you haven't read the prequel series Infernal Devices it's a must read. However, Hush, Hush is awesome, so is Covenant (Half Blood is first book in the series, it's got a great female protagonist, those are the first I can think of.
