Have read several of this authors books and have failed to enjoy them but am still willing to give him another go.

E.L. is my favorite one of his so far. Granted I haven't read that many, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat.

I read this book in college, and it stuck with me. I hope you enjoy it! Such a great book.

It's a public domain audio book: https://archive.org/details/LadyChatt...

Well I am a baseball fan but my, at that time girlfriend, hates baseball and loved the book. Its very good.

Thanks Lauren I hope I enjoy it as much as you have :)
As for Casino Royale it's a really good book! I love Bond films and all of Fleming's bond books but Casino Royale has to be the best- it's so cool :)

Thanks for the tip Mekki. I do a majority of my "reading" via audiobook, so I love finding new sources to feed my addiction. :)

I hope you'll like him this time. Ian McEwan is absolutely my favorite contemporary author, but unfortunately I think he's got a voice and a style that are unmistakably his, which you can feel in every one of his novels, and I usually find that people either love him or hate him altogether. Just out of curiosity, which of his books have you already read?
I've just started Tess of the d'Urbervilles. I'd always put off reading this one because unfortunately one of my friends had seen the BBC miniseries and spoiled me the end, but I hope it won't matter and that I'll enjoy it all the same.

Tess is on my list to get to this year. Can't wait to see how you like it. I haven't seen the miniseries so that's good. :-)

I started Sputnik Sweetheart a couple of days ago, too!

I've just started Love in the time of cholera. It was a bit slow at the begining, but I'm liking it so far.

Ooh, I'm curious about this one. I enjoyed The Monk in all it's crazy gothic over-the-topness, and this one sounds like it has some similar things going for it.

That's a case,I think,of problems of conscience,resumedly..

Oooh it's been so long since I read that. My literature teacher in High School was a committed anti-clericalist and anti-catholic, so she made us read that book. I remember it to be a painful read, but the discussion that followed was extremely interesting. Of course the basic theme is thought provoking and it was very forward thinking for the times!

I read this book last year, and I really enjoyed it despite the subject matter. Nabokov has such a way with words.
