I also just started reading

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
Starting Underworld by Don DeLillo. I liked his White Noise, which is on all the big lists. Underworld got a Pulitzer nomination.
Rose wrote: "Thousand Cranes by Yasunari Kawabata"
I read that recently and liked it a lot, very Japanese style

The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. I gave a four-star rating to her "Written on the Body" which I read five years ago.

The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett

The Thin Man by [author:Dashiell Ham..."
I just watched The Thin Man as part of my 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die project! I really liked it. I'm thinking of reading the Dashiell Hammett books soon now.
Life: A User's Manual by Georges Perec.
This is already my fourth Boxall list novel by a French author this year and I plan to read four more by year's end. Wish I could read French.
