I haven't read any of Lawrence Durrell's novels, but I highly recommend (non-list book) My Family and Other Animals by Lawrence's brother Gerald Durrell.

Maggie | 106 comments I've started on The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. This is the first time I'm trying pulp fiction – it's nice how the list introduces us to new genres! I've read the first chapter and I'm enjoying the sarcastic humour.

Becky (munchkinland_farm) | 248 comments Less than zero. Bret Easton Ellis. Seriously wondering why I need to read this book before I die. At least it's a short book.

Regarding A Clockwork Orange I read the book first and loved it, but I feel like watching the movie later ruined the images I had created in my mind. If I'd seen the film first, I think I might have avoided the book, too. (glad I didn't)

Sheesh! I did it again - not on the list but Glamourama is. Don't think I'll be rushing out to buy it. Less than Zero was horrid.

I didn't realize he had passed away until your post. I have had One Hundred Years of Solitude on my TBR list for the past couple of months. I need to give it another try since I couldn't get into the book when I tried reading it 15 years ago.
